Pros: Real RPG, great characters, amusing, nice battles/battle system, good for old-schoolers
Cons: Forgettable soundtrack, dungeons can get repetitive. Who has a dungeon in a pirate ship?
The Bottom Line: If you are a newbie, get this game, see what you have missed while getting your so-called "fresh air". For old-school, love this game for it's traditional RPG charm.

Dunno. I grew up on RPGs. My parents played Intellivision. Final Fantasy was my nintendo god. Final Fantasy 2[4] and 3[6] (may I make a little side "poopoo" on Final Fantasy Mystic Quest), Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Lufia, Ogre Battle, Big Sky Troopers, and Breath of Fire were probably more influential than peers, family, and teachers combined. You know when people are like "Hey how did you know that?", in my case it probably came from Secret of Mana. I'm violently old-school RPG.
Given that mini-rant, I really really enjoy this game. I worried when I bought it [for 49.99 damn Canada.] that it would be real real lame "The Sinistrals are revived... Again! ...Once more a descendant of Maxim... Again Umpteenth Doom Island War". Luckily I was pleasantly surprised. The game is actually decent. Little side note, I have ZERO sense of direction. Constantly changing dungeons are a big plus. No cruddy routes to memorize for me! BUWAHA! ... Yea anyway, the important point now, the characters are too damn cute! They make me was to lock up in my room and sink into fan art heaven.
The game is funny *shock*, they mock the main character and do it reasonably well. For someone who grew up w/ "Gosh you're evil!" reading "You are such an idiot/Are you stupid?!" is refreshing and amusing.Downsides? Forgettable soundtrack. No brainer here, but people who raved about Final Fantasy VII+ are not going to like this game. Um lucky for me I guess? I shun these people. Heh. I would recommend this game to anyone utterly horrified they replaced sprites w/ the likes of Squall. To all those crazy crazy kids who actually took the time to woo Eve, you will like this game.
Yea I went into the store looking for Dragon Warrior and came out w/ Lufia. I'm still satisfied. I hope there continues to be a market to keep spreading Traditional RPG goodness. I live w/ the hope that my SNES will live as long as I do. Either that or GBC, GBA, whatever, will keep me happy w/ 16-bit adventures.
