An Excellent read, scapp70. I do agree that Blu-Ray has won this format war. Also, that "purple-ray" is priceless!!!! :)

Thank you for writing this interesting look on the current format war. I enjoyed it!

I have a BD-P1200 (http://www.epinions.com/content_400967634564). I like it, but it seems I'll probably have to upgrade sometime next year when the prices come down. My best friend has the PS3 and he swears by it, you really can't beat the constant updates Sony supplies you for games and movies. Now that PS3 is $399, it's a steal.

analysis. Good insight. I've been trying to figure it out which way the market (and thus we) will go in our household. I think now my biggest decision is whether to buy a BD-Player, or a PS3 for the same, or less, money. You don't mention which you have? Can we expect a review?

I'm glad someone can appreciate my humor. People are passionate on both sides of this war, including me sometimes. Why not add a bit of levity.
Thanks for the comments,

Good assessment, but you need an edit: (Reply to this comment)

You wrote: "Microsoft was going to use its endless well of capital to bribe two major movie companies (DreamWorks & Paramount) into backing HD-DVD for an 18-month period of time (Sept 2007 - Feb 2008)." That's a 6-month spread, not 18 months. I assume you mean Feb 2009?

Otherwise, very well done and most likely correct in its projection. cheers, nick

That was hilarious. I don't care who wins, since I am too poor to afford either format. But your opening paragraph was terrific!

...and I don't know anything about tech stuff. Sounds like the beginnings of a great book!
