Everyone has heard about ITunes, but Verizon offers Rhapsody music downloads online while using your mobile device. Once you have discovered this music-lover's obsession you will be tempted to start giving away those old vinyl 45s, CD's and other music relics for the ease of being able to OWN and CREATE your personal music library right in the palm of your hand.
Rhapsody works by accessing the "app" on your mobile device. The website states that if you have a "smart" device like an IPhone that you can access the application free of charge. For Verizon customers with access to music downloads, you simply request a monthly subscription which allows you to listen to the tunes for approximately $14.95 per month or you can choose to buy the tunes for prices ranging from 69 cents to $1.99. Once bought, you are able to download them into your phone and transfer to your computer as well.
Rhapsody.com is the official website which contains over 9 million songs. You can find everything from classical to country and when the rap or tune is Explicit they will clearly let you know that. You enter the mobile device website through music and tone area which goes to V-cast music choices. There is What's New, What's Hot, Features, My Music (your eventual playlists), Recommended (while you are busy buying) Browse (to buy) and Alerts, Download and Sync Music (for moving to another PC or device).
When you enter Browse you have your choice between Genres (like R&B, Country, Classical); Artists (like Billy Joel, Kelly Clarkson); Albums (like JT, Court & Spark); Songs (Jealous Guy). At the GO TO line type in your name and do not enter, simply allow the screen to think through the large music library. Hitting OK allows Options such as Preview the song - a mere 20 seconds, Buy and returning to previous screens or checking out other songs from that Album or Artist.
It is easy to download the music into your mobile device, which takes about 90 seconds with a handy screen to let you know how much space you have available in MB's and the progress the download is making. Do NOT try to download during a storm. The purchase takes place online digitally and electronically before the download, so you want to make sure you are not wiggling your phone around and that there is plenty of "juice" in the batteries before downloading.
My mobile device has a Speakerphone and the quality of the music coming from it is comparable with a pretty decent portable radio. You can clearly hear all the musical instruments and nuances because it is "digital" but it gets pretty convoluted if you try remixes or complicated musical arrangements such as Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground". James Taylor and Joni Mitchell's earlier renditions have a wonderful sound quality as do Live performances from Mariah Carey, Billy Joel and Elton John. Remember that there are so many copy-cats and remakes that you will need to scroll through quite a bit of bunk before getting to just the right musical piece. What I enjoy is getting a live performance on a song I may already own on CD in the original. The artist may have added new instrumentation or play it differently, one example is Luther Vandross singing "A House is Not a Home."
Well, by now you can see my musical genre, but I have downloaded everything from "Neutron Dance" to "I Got A Feeling" - the latter by far the most popular download with good reason, the sound quality is delightful.
Rhapsody.com has a clear and easy to read website which can be accessed by your computer. They are currently offering a free trial offer and a $9.95 monthly subscription after that. Remember that when you BUY the songs, they are yours to keep in the phone and transfer to other devices. If you subscribe, you are paying a rental to listen to the pieces and once they are removed or updated they disappear.
The costs will eventually appear on your mobile device bill so be careful that you do not get too addicted. If you love music and the ease of taking that music everywhere with you and the joy of creating a virtual personal radio station, you may want to try Rhapsody for your mobile device.
