Making The Most of the 2007 "Neopets Advent Calendar"
Nov 30 '07 (Updated Dec 31 '07)
The Bottom Line The Advent Calendar, 31 days of free, fun stuff from Neopets!
At the start of December Neopians will be hitting the Advent Calendar to get their daily dose of free things. Located at the base of Terror Mountain, it's a peaceful place that doesnt see any action until the Month of Celebrating [December] arrives. Sure, people might hit it from time to time to try to get a Winter Random Event but it's usually quiet and serene. Please keep in mind that if you have multiple accounts and try to collect the prizes and points on "side accounts" you could be frozen.
What Is the Advent Calendar?
Every day you can visit the Advent Calendar at the website and get a gift; sometimes it is a food item, piece of clothing, ornament or even Neopoints. In the past there have been avatars and paint brushes given out too; the avatars are usually a one time thing or something that is only available one time a year. You can find it at the bottom of Terror Mountain or cut and paste this link into your browser:

Can You Make A Profit On Them?
Without a doubt. You might not see an instant return on your investment but if you are willing to hoard things for a year, chances are everything from the Advent Calendar will increase in price. As a general rule, books and food items [one time use things] are expensive at first then the price drops when the market is flooded then the prices start increasing. Even now its not to late to start collecting things from previous Advent Calendars because the price is only going to increase each year.
Here are some great examples:
"Cranberry Gummy Slorg": These were selling for anywhere from 25 NP to 50 NP and I bought a ton of them [seriously, like over a thousand of them] and the average selling price for them now is between 700 and 800 NP.
"Milk Chocolate Snowbunny": Selling for anywhere from 950 - 1,100 NP. A retired item, it is only going to increase in price.
"Jelly Bean Stocking": No one paid much attention to this when it was handed out in Year 4 but now you will be lucky to find one selling for under 2,000 NP. Likewise the "Sparkling Seasonal Stocking" given out in Year 5 is selling for more than 6,000 NP.
"A Faerie Christmas" is holding steady at over 30,000 NP and since it is retired, the price is going to keep climbing as people try to will a book award and will need every book they can get their hands on to win it.
"Christmas Brucicle" was a shocker, these are over a thousand points now and are retired so anyone that collects Christmas items or is a fan of the Bruce Neopet will want to get one now.
Some items that have skyrocketed include: "Blue Nimmo Cracker", "Space Slushie", "Chocolate Doughnutfruit", "Big Bag of Sweets", "Roaring Log Fire", "Gigantic Decorated Christmas Tree", "Shooting Star Muffin", "Seasonal Stamp", "Mint Chocolate Tree", "Walking Book", "Snow Wars Collectable Card" and "Golden Juppie".
The 2007 Advent Calendar
What wonderful things will Neopians be able to collect? That's always a secret. Some will wonder about paintbrushes or avatars, others will be hoping for battle items or books. I am going to update the list of things that are given out so if you happen to miss a day [perish the thought], you can check here if you like. It's never too late to grab ten or a hundred of something and toss it in your Safe Deposit Box and wait for the price to go up.

Seasonal Items Worth Hoarding
As the prices on items increases you can bet that after the holiday rush the prices will once again drop on some things. Here are some non-advent calendar items worth checking out:
"Christmas Petpet Paint Brush", "Snow Petpet Paint Brush", "Snow Brucicle", "Snow Wars Catapult Stamp", "A Grundo Christmas", "Snow Days", "Christmas Uni Stamp", "Winter Card", "Snow Faerie Snowglobe", "Christmas Nova", "Pink Faerie Snowball", "Holiday Milk and Cookies", "Chia Holiday Greeting Card", "Snowberry Slushie", "Deluxe Snowflake Cake", "Gingerbread Seasons Greatings Card" and "Chocolate Snowflake Cake".
Please note, the "Gingerbread Seasons Greatings Card" is actually spelled that way at the website but when you view the image of the item it is spelled correctly on the card but the Neopet listing for it does indeed read "Greatings". With my luck they will change it and I'll look like a bumbling fool
Parting Advice
If you are going to stick with the site for the long haul then you need to hoard and packrat things. I don't have any intentions of selling off all the items that I have saved up but I will sell a few things here or there if I need NP and don't feel like hitting the Bank. Seasonal items fluctuate but if you collect the things that can only be used once, chances are your investment is going to pay off if you are willing to wait it out. New people join the site, others come back after a break and want to get their hands on things.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the team at Neopets had come up with for the 31 days of December. That's right, even after Christmas comes and goes, the Advent Calendar is around until December 31st. If you are a member of the site it takes only a couple seconds to view the animation that precedes the gift, after that you can stick around the site and play or come back the next day for another treat.
As always, thanks for the visit
