I'll never do business with Smith and Noble again, and here's why:
1) The shipping charges should be called what they really are: "extra profit". To offer no break when you order many items, and to charge a flat fee of ~$10 per shade is harking back to an era of online exploitation and corporate arrogance. They should price the product accordingly, and don't assume an uninformed customer who can't figure out that $50 is a tad excessive to ship a mere 12 lbs worth of goods... I've Fed-Ex'ed stuff to Europe overnight for less!
2) Shipping takes FOREVER... because the items ship from Hong Kong! Apple can get items to your door from Shenzhen China in a few days, but S+N can't even get a blip on the UPS tracking system after informing me that my items shipped over 7 days ago. Nice work guys.
3) Customer service reps are rude, arrogant, and unwilling to help. I called to inquire about the tardiness of my order, and I was lectured about how unrealistic my requests were and how their shipping policies were the result of recent changes that ultimately would save me money. Hmmmm. It was clear to me that customer service at S+N operates with impunity maintains no accountability for poor service and disrespectful dialogue. Sad state of affairs that likely mirrors the attitude of upper management at S+N.
I can't speak to the quality issues that others have spoke of, but this is because I still do not have my order. Judging by my experiences so far, I am not surprised by the other claims.
My suggestion: Run away from S+N. Save yourself the headaches, and deal with a respectful company that values the customer and prices items fairly without tacking on grossly over-reaching shipping charges just before you click the "finalize my order" button.
