the solution to your period on special days
Written: Jun 22 '10 (Updated Jun 22 '10)
Pros:No more ruined romantic vacations or embarrassing tampons!!!!
Cons:Very messy, must handle with precision and care.
The Bottom Line: This product is great for every frustrated woman who has a big event, vacation or lover to tend to and a pesky period at the same time!
This product is wonderful. As advertised you will have to get the hang of it and yes it feels strange at first for it is a rather large object (even for a mother of two).
The plastic is pliable but it is still a bit hard on the very soft areas. If not inserted correctly it WILL be uncomfortable which is good because it tells you to take it out and re-insert it until it feels "natural". You pinch it to approximately the size of a tampon, insert it slowly and wedge it behind your pubic bone. The cup is made to "catch" the flow so the position of it is important. READ the directions carefully. It should NOT be painful, but you could be sensitive so be careful and do it slowly.
I find that sitting on the toilet is the best position for insertion and removal. Having close access to a sink is ideal. This way I can comfortably clean up. I usually turn the faucet on first, then when I remove the cup (slowly) I dump the contents into the toilet and carefully place it in the sink under the running water (use toilet paper under it if it is still very messy). This allows me to wash it off before I throw it away or have to re-use it.
The benefits are as advertised, you CAN wear them longer than pads or tampons for most women having a "normal" flow. If you tend to have a heavy flow, frequent changes will be needed. Be warned though, if you sneeze, cough, or "push" too hard i.e. during orgasm or normal restroom usage, it WILL move and leak. Sometimes it pops right back into place but there will be a mess and you should just take it out, clean up, and re-insert or replace with a cleaned or new cup.
Sexual activity is fine and comfortable, but be sure to be a bit more careful, a little less "frisky" for the cup CAN and WILL move out of place. Take it out and wash up immediately after intercourse. Make sure your lover does not insert anything other than themselves while you use this product, just for your own comfort and safety. You might experience a little dryness in which case a little lubricant will work just fine.
When out in public places where you don't have easy access to a sink near the toilet, you MUST be extra careful. I suggest you bring a glass of clean water with you or a water bottle so you can clean the mess. Always carry an extra cup with you but in a pinch you CAN wash the one you are using and re-use it, though not recommended.
Wear a pad at night if you can (or are going to be alone) just to give yourself a "break" in there. Especially if you just started using this product. The best place to practice is in the shower. Great for beginners, you can try as many times as you need to until you learn how to insert and remove the cup correctly with minimal mess. Give it a go, be patient with yourself, and maybe you too will enjoy this lovely little pink cup!
