Lost Emperor,
Thank you for your comment.
Wow! 4,000 MP3s on your iPod? I don't think I even like that many songs. I can't imagine wanting more space for more songs -- if each song were 4 minutes long, it would take 16,000 minutes (not including the few seconds' worth of pause between songs) to listen to them all! That's about 266 hr. 40 min., or over 11 days of consecutive listening.
I think we'll just have to agree to disagree regarding hard drive space. As I stated in my article, larger hard drives only serve in seducing consumers to buy more for the sake of buying more. Of course, NEF files from a Nikon DSLR are 20 MB per file, and that begins to eat up drive space, but I just feel more encourage to trim down and back up my files on DVD-R discs. But, I digress...
Thanks again!

Good article. I just wish to point out that there are many iPod users who prefer high bitrates of 256 to 320 kbps which results in much larger files. These bitrates are necessary if you are going to listen to your iPod through a higher fidelity sound system which will expose the lousy sound you get from a 128 kbps MP3. Additionally, if you listen to classical music, many tracks will be much longer, resulting in some files over 100 MB.On my 60 GB iPod, I have completely filled the drive with just over 4000 MP3s and no video. Frankly, I look forward to iPods with drives measured in terabytes. I don't think people like me are all that rare, either.
