fyvel - great review. I'm personally glad you exceeded your self imposed limit. The review gave me the insight to be happy with the recent purchase of a Dell 4300s for my mom.
Your comparison of Windows XP with Win98 helped a lot too. Having not had a chance to get my hands on a WinXP machine yet, I had concerns about my mom dealing with the changes - you imply that though it's different, it's not a big deal.
Again, thanks for taking the time to write such a complete review.

I've heard bad things about Dell computers; I think it's a different series though (something about loud fans). I was terrified I was going to get a loud fan, but I can't even hear my computer over my fishtank - heck, I don't know if it makes any noise at all :)

about Dell computers,and your review only confirms my suspicion-they must be good :)
We've had one Gateway-terribly out of date but it crashed too much,and one compaq-used to crash but it's been really good the past year. Not sure what we'd buy next time.
