First, skates can be cleaned and disinfected quite easily. More importantly, though, their molding irreparably to the feet of the first owner is outdated information going back to the days of leather skates. Modern skates are built to be more universally anatomical in the first place and don't permanently mold the way older skates did. If you buy Reebok pump skates, the problem is essentially moot (just make sure the air bladders are still intact). If you're that concerned about it, most skates can be heat molded a second time, although heat molding is really overrated and no longer necessary with most of the current generations of skates. Some of the best deals to be had on high-level skates are on used ones, especially pro-stock.

Yep, that's the type of deal you can find if you know what to look for. But it's more the exception than the rule. Glad to hear you got a good deal.

After hockey, yes bowling is boring. But mostly I put that in just to see who I would offend (grin). Thanks for the comment.

Although I would never touch most of the skates at the local Play it Again Sports with a 10 foot hockey stick, if you look around enough, there are some deals to be had. A couple of summers ago when my severly aging CCM Black Tacks bit the dust, I replaced them with some used (2-3 times, according to the seller, which I believe) 2004 CCM Pro Tacks I found on eBay for about $150. They were in pristine condition (the seller said he had heat-formed them once and skated on them 3 times, and they were half a size too big), and I got them for a third of the price they would have been brand new. Score one for me, because these skates rock!

Bowling?! "Lame?!" How are we supposed to trust the opinions of such an obvious mental deviant? Deviant, I say!
