I just read your article. I am so sorry that you had to endure that. My sister had a corneal ulcer too. It is on her right eye. We were all so scared for her. She had to keep going to the eye doctor and then she went to a specialist who told her what she had. It happened in 2004 and her vision is better now. She has to get an eyedrop once a week. I hope that your eye is better now.

Thank you all for your well wishes. They are much appreciated.
Just a quick update:
The pain in my eye is much less now, and the vision has improved somewhat. I still can't see much out of that eye, but am adjusting. They say that it might get better with time... We will just have to wait and see.

Hi, Kelly. (Reply to this comment)

When you mentioned that you are "a frequent migraine sufferer", that got my attention (as if your title hadn't already done so!). For I, too, have (or had) been a chronic headache sufferer--including the occasional migraine--since 1971 (age 18). [Incidentally, another (admittedly less serious) symptom that I'd had for much of my adult life (since my late twenties) was dry, cracked skin on my knuckles and the backs of my hands every winter.]
Both my head and my hands have been much better since I stopped consuming "the American diet" and consistently based my dietary intake on the guidelines set forth in the 2003 book Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman, M.D.
Within about a month after I changed my dietary intake, my formerly frequent headaches began to decrease in frequency; and within two months things had improved still further; and now that I'm nearing the three-month point, my headaches are much, much less frequent and very rarely do they persist for a full day (or two!) as before.
As a bonus, my aforementioned hands are "miraculously" no longer the least bit dry or cracked as they'd normally be in February (and trust me, it's been very cold and dry here in KC this winter; plus I keep my house temperature around 58 to 60 degrees--much cooler than most humans could comfortably tolerate--which saves me a small fortune on my wintertime heating bill, as I explained in my Writer's Corner piece last December). In fact, for the past month I've been able to stop applying the "miraculous" Neem salve that I'd discovered (and posted an "Epinion" about a year or so ago) and which is much more effective than any other "hand-moisturizing" concoction containing man-made ingredients.
Anyway! What I'm leading up to his this:
IF all else fails to improve your general health; if things stay bad or deteriorate even further; you might want to at least consider experimenting with a three-month "total change" in your dietary intake per Dr. Fuhrman's guidelines. [My own "lifetime diet" that I wrote about in January was inspired by that book.]
Though the majority of American doctors are themselves consumers of "the American diet" (and perchance poppers of such popularly dispensed pills as Lipitor), and though they would ironically smirk at what I'm saying, there's nonetheless more than a modicum of truth in the adage that "food is the best medicine". Moreover, it's one of the cheapest medicines (contrasted with medical bills nowadays!).
Consider my foregoing words to be "just a little food for thought" that you might keep in the back of your mind in case all else fails. Even if your "eye condition" isn't totally cured, it might at least be ameliorated.
I wish you health and happiness.
Mike
P.S.: Along with "diet", the other indispensable "medicine" is regular exercise of the kind (and in the degree) that your doctor deems appropriate for you. [And perhaps a bit of extra sleep and "deep-relaxation techniques" could be of some additional benefit in certain cases.]

Sorry to hear of this.
Thanks for writing to others as a constant reminder not to take our health, our sight, and our hearing for granted.
