Moviefone.com,a subsidiary of AOL moviefone, is an excellent source for movie listings, showtimes, theater locations and most importantly gives the option of purchasing tickets in advance. I have used it very often and it works very well for the theaters in my area. Its is free for all users and although its service is not unique, it is backed up by AOL Time Warner and provides some pretty good service.
The ticket buying experience
The showtimes and tickets search window is located on the main page. You can search for a movie by name or look for the movies near a particular zipcode. You can even enter the city name if you like. After you make your choice, it lists all the theaters that satisfy your search criteria. For each theater they list the movies running in them and well as their showtimes. As I said before, its a free service for everyone. Information is also provided on the amenities available in the theater such as handicapped seating, stadium seating etc. There is also a listing of the restaurants and bars in the vicinity of the theater. I liked this feature because I always like to hang around before I go for a movie.
There is a $1.00 charge for each ticket, and this can be a big factor for you to consider if you want to purchase a ticket. If its a new movie, then it may be worth it, but otherwise I normally never use the option. I personally feel the fee is too high, but all other websites seem to charge a similar fee. It accepts all major credit cards but obviously prefers American Express. If you buy 10 tickets using your Amex card, you get the 11th one free. However, this program is not available in all cities, so be sure to check if your city is listed or not. In some selected theaters, you can get the reserved seat of your choice. This service is free but again is available in select theaters.
Once you have bought the ticket, all you need to do is to go to machine in the theater with the credit card that you used and it will print out your tickets. I think in some cases you can even pick up the tickets from the counter.
Moviefone telephone service
Besides Moviefone.com, there is also a telephone reservation system available through the Moviefone telephonic service (1-777-FILM), which provides the same service as the website. The service works through an automated voice recognition program and hence you may buy your ticket without actually speaking to a customer service rep.
Additional services on Moviefone.com
Moviefone.com is not just about buying tickets. You have everything that enhances your movie experience. They have a "Stars and News" section where you can catch up on all the gossip on your favorite moviestars. They have photos, box-office reports, feedbacks and movie news. All this just helps you to know much more about the movie that you want to see. The "Features" section looks in depth on a particular movie or a story and makes fascinating reading. In the "Preview and More" section, you can know everything about the forthcoming movies. I love this section as you can see the previews and theater trailors of all the forthcoming movies. Its thrilling stuff. In the "Rant and Rave" section, the audience can express their opinions and shoot their mouths off. They also have a video and DVD section where you can buy these items from CDNOW.
If you love getting e-mails, you can sign up for Moviemail where they send you info on all the happening events and you might even get a surprise invitation.
Summary
Moviefone.com offers good service. As I said, its not unique, but the AOL brandname and the polished web-site gives the website the credibility. A lot of my friends have been using moviefone.com and I haven't heard too many complaints. So if you are a movie-buff, go ahead and log in, and I can bet you will not be disappointed.
