Reading this again, and loving it. And seeing this comment, I had to chime in that "You saw me when I was invisible" is one of my favorite movie lines ever. I never did make my own version of this list; maybe I should do that...

Kisses! (Reply to this comment)

Ooh, I really enjoy the kiss in Princess Diaries. Ridiculous, almost unbelievably fairy-tale, what with the foot-popping and the illuminated garden. But the thing that always grabbed my heart about that scene is when Michael asks, "Why me?" and Mia replies, "Because you saw me when I was invisible."

Melt.

Hee! We'd have to write the book first, I think. We could start our own sub-genre. Early Reader Romance.

I would, of course, want to continue the series by writing a book where Bob the Builder and his stalwart Girl Friday Wendy finally realize they're meant to be together.

Now I have the giggles.

Our Dear Friends... (Reply to this comment)

So today I discovered a Mr. Putter and Tabby book I hadn't read before in which Mrs. Teaberry figures prominently, and it got me thinking... They ought to have their own movie. And if we had anything to say about it, that movie should pop up on this list! ;)

Christopher Plummer is so very swoon-worthy in the role! I was re-watching the scene just yesterday, priming myself for writing this, and it's still just about the most romantic movie moment I've ever seen. And you hit the perfect quote...I couldn't think of which one I wanted to use, but the one you mention is much closer in time to the actual kiss than the one I went with. I thought about the line "Maybe we should ask...the children?" which always makes me smile.

Ah, Lady and the Tramp. I didn't think of that one, but it's definitely sweet. It would be fun to try a list like this but limit it to animated films...more challenging for sure, but fun!

I really struggled to come up with a Harrison Ford moment to include on the list. Harrison was the first romantic movie hero I ever "fell for" who was anywhere remotely close to my generation (he came in line behind Plummer, Kelly and Bogart for me). It's been a while since I've seen Jedi, but I'm sure that's a good one. I like the closing kiss in the Sabrina remake, but the filmmakers kind of ruined it with an obtrusive voice-over. If it wasn't for that, I think it might have made the list.

I'm sure I'll think of more and keep smacking myself on the head for not including them! :-) Glad you enjoyed the list!

Whoops! Neglected to comment on your affection for the Northam-Paltrow scene. Yes, that's a good one, and I like it a lot, but I still favor the Austen moments I mentioned here. Not sure why entirely. I think I need to re-watch the Paltrow version of Emma soon!

Oh, right! I should have put Persuasion 2007 on here...NOT! :-) It might, however, headline a similar list of the all-time *worst* movie kisses!

But I am smacking my head over leaving off Beauty and the Beast. On an earlier incarnation of this list (when I first had the idea months ago) I am pretty sure I included it. It's definitely my favorite kiss in an animated movie. You can't get much better than a kiss that has enough transforming voltage to break an enchantment!

Persuasion 2007 didn't make the top 10 kisses?!?! :P

I've seen about half of your selections and those are some of my favorites too...but I would have to add Beauty and the Beast to my list. The entire transformation scene (and the music and animation) and everything about how it came together was just the epitome of romance to me. (Strangely, the animation after the kiss went way downhill and looked really cartoonish.)

And as sweet as the endings of P&P94 and P95 are, I thought Jeremy Northam and Gwyneth Paltrow in Emma had the best on-screen kiss of all the Austen movies. YMMV of course! It was probably more Hollywood (and definitely less Austen-esque) than the other adaptations and their lovey scenes....I still love it though!

Will have to think of my other favorites, none are occurring to me at the moment!

Wonderful List (Reply to this comment)
by bilbopooh
I actually haven't seen many of these movies, and now I want to. :) I was wondering what you would do for your 400th post; this list is terrific!

On Valentine's Day, the Good Morning America anchors were sharing their favorite film kisses around the water cooler, which got Mom and me to thinking about our favorites. Sound of Music is definitely one of them. ("You can't... marry someone... when you're in love with someone else." *swoon*)

I'm also a real sucker for the spaghetti scene in Lady and the Tramp - the sweet accidentalness of it, and for a dog to offer the last meatball, you know he really must be in love! Another of my all-time favorites is in Return of the Jedi, when Leia tells Han that Luke is her brother and his expression melts from total confusion to ecstacy as they kiss. Hmmm, I might have to make a list of my own!

Congrats on 400! :D
