titaniumtommy's Full Review: Room For Squares by John Mayer (Rock)
I like all kinds of music...from Trance and Ambient to Hip "PoP" among other things. John Mayer, however, is the best stuff I've heard in a long, long while...he's a little Sting mixed with Dave Matthews and a pinch of Pete Yorn. He's got a great voice and some really, really good music. The kind of music you can sit and listen to for hours over and over again. If you have good speakers or headphones, you will get a sense of depth with a few of the songs that make you feel like you are in a large hall with John in front of you singing away. I love the song called 'Neon.' Just awesome guitars and vocals. Good lyrics, too. 'No Such Thing,' is another folk-ish, rock-ish song that's just great. 'Back to You' is more of a modern rock song that would be played on today's over-commercialized radio stations (you rarely here stuff like John Mayer on the radio...hence I rarely listen to any radio anymore). But I digress, 'Back to You' is a great song about a guy haunted by memories of his ex-girlfriend...maybe he's still in love with her? 'Why Georgia' is another great guitar track...good vocals too. Just an all around good album. 'Great Indoors'....smooth and easy...Just go buy it already!!
How did I find out about John Mayer? Sony sent me a promotional email (that I signed up for...they give you points). I decided to go to the site and I listened to the samples there...I was hooked. So I downloaded most of the album on MP3 and listened to it for a few days. I love the music so much that I decided to buy the CD. So I used my Sony points and got the album for 11.88 including shipping and tax! I decided to buy the CD because most of the music is good and I had a chance to try it. Listen up music labels: make good music and people will buy music! I choose to buy this CD because I wanted to support John Mayer and hope that he will produce more albums in the future. I urge everyone to download MP3s and buy the CDs of those artists who have good albums (not just one or two good songs). This should be a wake up call to the recording industry that people will buy music, but only good music. Anyway, enough ranting and raving...get out there and buy John Mayer's CD!
