Pros:2 settings, cute design, even cooking
Cons:none
The Bottom Line: Give it a try. If you find that your meals aren't compatible with it, I would be highly surprised!
I received this crock pot as a gift from my mother-in-law for this past Christmas. I have to say, I love this appliance! I have never really been interested in owning a crock pot. I always figured that whatever I can make in that, I can make on my stove or in my oven... why clutter up more counter space? However, after using it for the first time tonight, I have definately changed my mind. This may become one of my favorite things to cook with! With the exception, of course, of my GranPappy Fryer!
The pot itself has an ivy leaf design (very cute), handles for easy carrying, and 2 settings (low and high). This is very nice compared to my grandmother's old on and off feature. There is a removable pot within it so you can store your leftovers without dirtying a bunch of other dishes. Just remove the pot, put the lid on, and put it in the refrigerator. I imagine that you could store your leftovers for about a week inside of this. Pop it back in the appliance and reheat, or just take out what you want and nuke it separately.
The nicest thing I have found about this is after putting in my little concoction, I went into town with my husband and children and didn't worry about it the whole time we were gone (about 3 hours). When we got home, I gave the meal a quick stir and ignored it for another 3 hours. Finally, 3 hours and 2 meals later, dinner was ready. I didn't have to work on it all day, my meal preparation took about 10 minutes (recipe below), and serving took another 10. I spent less than a half hour making one of the best meals I have ever had! Tomorrow, I am going to cook up some pasta and mix it with my leftovers for something that will probably be just as good!
The insert and the lid are also dishwasher safe, so there is no scrubbing involved. Makes it even more convinient than it already was!!! I recommend this to anyone who has a normally busy lifestyle like working full time out of the house. You can make up your meals in the morning and come home to a well cooked meal. You don't have to stir the foods, I just did it to see how mine was coming along.
The Best Pot Roast In The Whole Dang World:
5 1/2 pound Roast
2 cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 package (1 ounce) onion soup mix
1 1/4 cups water
1 jar or can mushrooms
Mix together soup, dry soup, and water. Drain 1/2 juice out of mushrooms and mix the rest in with the mushrooms. Put in pot roast and coat with soup mixture. Set on low for 9 hours.
This is a very easy and VERY delicious recipe! You can shred your meat that is left over and use it for sandwiches or make pasta later for a nice stroganoff!
