Discount Tire Issues
May 17 '08
The Bottom Line In MY experience, the prices are competitive but don't expect polite service. You may need a second opinion on their recommendations.
I've tried very hard to like Discount Tire but just keep running into problems. The last straw for me was when my wife recently took her minivan in to have a tire repaired at the Keller, Texas store. She had the spare on and just needed to see if the original tire could be patched. The guy behind the counter came out and looked over all the tires and told her (not too politely) that she needed to have all four replaced. She called me on the cell phone and I told her to bring it home and I would check into prices. The prices at a competitor were substantially better (discount tire prices are very competitive, but not in this case) so I took it to the competition and told them to replace all four tires. After inspecting the tires, the person at the competition came out and asked why I was replacing them all. He said he inspected the tires and found no reason to replace all four. He said the tread looked good. I told him that Discount tire had said the side walls were in bad shape. He told me that he could find nothing wrong with the side walls.
I've dealt with the people at Discount Tire being rude in the past but I've put up with it because the prices were good. I even put up with one guy referring to my car as a P.O.S. (piece of sh&*). Perhaps he didn't think that I would know what he meant by P.O.S.
