The Classics (Reply to this comment)
by AinsleyJo
I see that you and I share a love for the classics when it comes to movies--and I would have been awfully disappointed had you not included It's A Wonderful Life in your mix.
That's probably my very favorite movie.
I enjoyed reading about your favorite movies and your wonderful descriptions of each one!
Kudos!

There is no overlap with my list, but that's not a rating criterion.

I love Sabrina, but never saw Some Kind of Wonderful. I think I like the Breakfast Club so much because I teach school. I used to show it to my 9th graders and would have them tell me who changed the most in the film (an interesting exercise).
This was fun!

Glad to see you include Inn of the Sixth Happiness. It is one of my favorites, too, and very underrated. Sheila

Sigh - Gary Cooper (Reply to this comment)

I agree with you. He was hot - even when he was a little older, as in Love in the Afternoon with Audrey Hepburn.

Well... (Reply to this comment)

... anyone who claims to have written a list of The best movies ever just has to be kidding themselves. Everyone's list is personal!!
I liked some in your list, not others, and osme I haven't seen. Maltese Falcon and the old War of the Worlds were great, I agree with you that they are classics. (I do have "To Have and Have Not" in my all-time Top Ten Movies list, as well as "Sabrina" in my Top Ten Romantic Comedies. If I ever do a Top Ten Detective Movies list, TMF will definitely be in it!!)
I really didn't enjoy either The Breakfast Club or The Fifth Element at all. (I think of John Hughes' films, my favourite is "Some Kind of Wonderful" - did you enjoy that one?) Contact was good though personally I didn't find it great (and that "it's so beautiful, so beautiful, so beautiful" scene makes me want to heave!). Haven't seen the others - yes, at any rate.
"I've determined that I can rule out anything with Leonardo Di Caprio." - poor Leonardo!! I don't think I've got him in my Top Ten Movies list, but he's been in some excellent films. In "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" he was incredible.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Now onto the Top Ten by Genre and Year lists... there's a whole new world out here in Movies!!

Great list of movies, and the ones I've seen on this I agree with you completely.
I really loved Carl Sagan's Contact, because of its mixing of science and religion. It had some fascinating aspects to it, and I believe that these subjects can coexist quite well.
Wonderful review, and I'll have to go watch the old War of The Worlds Movie. Although I liked the newer edition, I felt it did not do justice to the original radio broadcast.
