Winster Review - an enjoyable site to play games make friends and win prizes
Aug 6, 2010 (Updated Sep 1, 2010)
I have been playing at Winster.com for at least two years now. Winster is a free gaming site where you can win actual prizes for playing games with others.
Games Available at Winster
Slot Social: Slot social is by far the most popular game at winster. It is essentially a slot machine type game. Working either alone or by trading with others you can get points for matching 3-5 pieces. All the games are based on team work and although you can play alone you will get more points if you trade with others.
Bingo Bash: Bingo Bash is one of my favorite games. It is a bingo board and you spin for numbers to fill various cards. You can trade with others for pieces you need and they don't.
Chain Gang: In the chain gang game you get different types of linked chains and try to make as long a chain as possible. The longer the chain the more points you get. Again trading is key.
Picture Magic: Picture magine is a game where you spin for different pieces of a puzzle that makes up a picture. When you get all the pieces you can cash out. You can trade with others to complete your picture faster.
Facets Facets is not one of my favorite games but I have played it occasionally. It is different aspects of a smiley face where you get points for putting the puzzle together with as many faces as possible.
Spell Squad: Spell squad is a fun spelling games where you spin for letters to make 3 4 5 or even longer words. the longer the words the more points you get. As with the other games you can trade letters with others
Burger Buddies: Burger buddies is a game where you spin for different pieces that make up a burger. The larger the burger the more points. Again trading with others is more profitable.
Poker Pals: You are dealt a five cards and try to make the best hand you can by respinning cards or trading with others. This game is really more fun when you have more people who will trade with you.
Match Maker: Match Maker is not my favorite game. It takes a lot of patience to get points through matching different types of pieces and getting them to match up other pieces as the pieces fall away.
Doku Deluxe: A fun numbers game that is like the doku puzzles with a twist of different colored pieces as well. Working with others you can get a lot of points by matching the entire board correctly.
Free vs Paid Membership
You can play at Winster for free or you can pay between $5 and 10 a month to get more daily spins. Paid members at any level get four times the points as non paying members. The other benefit of paying is that it cuts out the commercial breaks. I have a paid membership and would not play that much without it. There are still some ads as a paid member but they are off to the side and playing with firefox actually blocks them so I am not bothered by ads at all as a paying member.
Paying members at Winster can also use private rooms to set up games with friends which is fun and profitable, as when you get a bunch of experienced players together everyone gets more points.
A bunch of people play a side game called "Cherries" in private rooms. It uses the slot game...and we get lots of points because the game is set up that when all five players in a room spin the same piece each player gets 500 points. So to maximize this you hold on to your cherry while it is active and when it fades you spin again. When we get a five player match one designated person is the respinner and since cherries are the most frequent piece to come up it's not uncommon to get several matches in a row.
Another perk for paid members at the $10 or gold level is the choice to become a host. Hosts spend time with newbies. Ten minutes teaching a new player earns the host 3000 points per newbie. There is no limit.
You can also get points for referring a friend. Paying members get 25,000 points for a referral, non paying members get 10,000 for the same referral.
My favorite prize is the $25 gift cert to amazon.com There are some lower denomination prizes as well. All prizes are gift cards. To Amazon, Restaurants.com, Omaha steaks etc. As a paid member you have to play pretty much to make it worthwhile. I will pay for a few months and then take a break. But overall it is worth it to me for the fun and the prizes. Generally I get back more than I pay into the site.
Winster is really built around the sense of community. Friendships are encouraged and there is ability to chat privately with one player or with the whole group. The site allows you to have a friend list so you can join your friends in a game. It also has private messaging. If you want you can buy small graphics like hats and such for your Winster friends.
Well thanks for reading my review of Winster. I hope if you join you will look me up and play a game with me.
