In looking for a fun weekend getaway in Lake Tahoe, my primary consideration was finding a place that has 1 bedroom suites available and was a little more luxurious than the run of the mill family style hotel. When I came upon the Embassy Vacation Resort Lake Tahoe, I thought "this is too good to be true". It had everything we were looking for.

Since we travel with our toddler son and all of his required equipment, we prefer a spacious suite to a standard hotel room. The Embassy Vacation Resort Lake Tahoe offers three different types of rooms. A standard hotel like room with two double beds and a kitchenette. A one bedroom suite with a king size bed, a queen pull out in the living area and a full kitchen (with dw, range, oven, full size fridge, large dining table, equipped with cooking utensils and service for 6), a living area furnished in upscale log cabin style furnishings featuring a large screen tv with vcr, stereo, and a balcony. The third option is a two bedroom suite which is the one bedroom suite and the standard room with a common entry hall. We opted for the 1 bedroom suite and were very pleased with the spaciousness and amenities. My son had plenty of room to play and we didn't feel like we were all tripping over eachother. The only down side to this arrangement was that the standard room off of our entry hall was occupied by a very noisy family.

Some of the other amenities that we particularly liked are the indoor/outdoor pool and jacuzzi. This allows year round swimming and relaxing. There is a full gym with cardio and weight equipment and a rec room with planned supervised activities for the kids. They also have a large grassy area with a sand box and small play structure and bike rentals available on site. The resort also features a restaurant with a family friendly menu and a lounge with a full bar. We loved getting a nice glass of wine and sitting outside while the little one played in the sand. BBQs are provided outside and are available for guests use.

If you are not familiar with Lake Tahoe, it is probably one of the most beautiful places on earth. The lake itself is host to wonderful opportunities for every imaginable water sport, fishing, boating and just lazing on the beach. All of these are available right across from the resort. Summer days here are blissful with mild temperatures averaging around 80 degrees and cool evenings. The resort is located at the base of Heavenly Valley Ski Resort with some incredible skiing during the winter and a fun and beautiful gondola ride during the summer. There is also snow mobiling, cross country skiing and snow play areas close by. Many restaurants are within walking distance and if you are into some more exciting night life, the casinos are a short drive away. There is an onsite concierge to help you with any entertainment plans.

Although the prices are a little expensive compared to the other lodging deals you can find in the area, I have seen no other resort in Lake Tahoe that can offer the same experience. It is obvious that the resort is geared toward family vacationing, but it still offers the look and feel of a luxurious getaway for us big kids. We did see a lot of adults traveling without kids and they seemed to fit right in.

The Embassy Vacation Resort Lake Tahoe does offer vacation ownership (time-share). You can get a room discount if you go to the ownership presentation. They say it is a short presentation and a tour with no sales pressure. We didn't take advantage of this because we had our son with us and no children are allowed at the presentation. You can leave your kids with the kids program while you tour, but our son was too young.

All in all, the extra touches such as the onsite concierge, beautiful decor, great guest services and amazing surroundings make this a resort that we hope to visit again soon.
