SuperPages Map not so Super
Jul 19 '08
The Bottom Line Use with caution.
With at least one major roadway misnamed, and one major landmark misspelled so badly it took me a while to figure out what they meant, this is not the map to use when navigating in unfamiliar territory.
"Wai`anuenue Ave." is mislabled as "Saddle Road."
"Moku Ola" is called "Mokaoku"
Some of our most prominent features are not named at all. Ka Lae (also called South Point, as it is the southernmost point in the USA) is not named.
I'm still trying to figure out why Kailua-Kona gets named twice: Once as "Kailua-Kona," and once as "Kailua Kona." Each name even has its own dot.
Another puzzler is why Ke Kaha Kai State Park rates a huge bold-face listing and three of the four incredible national parks, Pu`u Kohola, Kaloko-Honokohau, and Pu`uhonua o Honaunau, are not on the map at all.
Some listed sites are places no one I know has ever heard of, but that could simply mean the SuperPages researchers know of some pretty out of the way places.
Anyway, I would use this map with extreme caution, and double-check it against Google Earth and the excellent Map of Hawai`i by James A Bier, which is published by the University of Hawai`i Press.
In addition to the problems with the map, when I tried to find the Millennium Restaurant & Lounge (my Google search for it is how I found SuperPages), even though SuperPages carries their listing, and shows them on the map, I was unable to get driving directions.
Instead, I was given the following:
No 'Millennium Restaurant and Lounge' found on this map.
Try these solutions
Problem: The current selections are outside of the map boundaries
Try: panning or zooming the map
Problem: The search terms are not correct or we don't have the exact term in our database
Try: Making sure the search terms are spelled correctly
This while looking at the restaurant pin on the map.
