..it's the story of what was paid for whenever the Taps is played that gives the thing such a spine-tingling effect rather than the melody itself... Though the melody itself is pretty darn spine-tingling in its simplicity, ay?
Thanks for sharing your grandpa's story with us, Dusty! He had a lot to be proud of!
Cheerio,

As a member and officer of Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War(DUVCW), I've attended many ceremonies where TAPS was played...it seems to be one of the few times when each person present barely breathes...at times even the birds stand at attention. Heck, I've seen cows in the fields stand stock still until the bugle fades.
This story was about my grandfather, my Mom's father. She's one of the few REAL daughter's left in our country.
Hope you had a great weekend! {{smile}}

sound of Taps still makes me cry, as it does many a hairy chested veteran. We don't show much emotion usually but when Pop would play it there wasn't a dry eye. :>

Hey Buff,
I'm doing great, no problems at all. As time goes by, I'm finding it harder to remember all the pain.
I hope you manage to find some relief!

Jennifer,
Thank you so much. Papa was actually my grandfather....all his children called him Papa. He died long before I was born. My Mom is the last of kids. Stories get handed down..you know how it is...and it's left up to the next generation to keep the stories alive.
Thanks for the r/r/c!
Dusty :)
