Excellent Work that benefits everyone... (Reply to this comment)

I hope you copyrighted the whole thing.

Suggestion: To link offsite, just type the whole link into your text/draft - then the reader can copy and paste anywhere.

Drafts in Open Office Writer make the transition to the Editor Window with few errors. (I do not trust MS WORD, it is too complex)

MH without a doubt! (Reply to this comment)

Though I haven't got the button, so VH will just have to do on paper, but in spirit, it's nothing short of MH for me! :o)

I'm surprised they unleashed this new editor on the site without providing anything as comprehensive as this manual at Member Center or even the General Message Board. I'm lucky I'm not using the browsers that are proving most problematic with this new system. Kudos to you and the others for help articles like this, bro!

Cheerio,
Smorgy :o)

Didn't I come across this before I spent all that time banging my head on the wall opening without a closing and all that?

Would be nice if we could set it up in our site settings to have spell-check on, or off. This way everyone could be happy. But I don't think that'll be the number 1 priority right now.

Yeah, noticed that myself for the first time today. I think the suggestion capablity may have been rolled out in the most recent tweak. Will change that...

Probably defaults to "Off" because that's the way the off-the-shelf system is initially configured. Rather have it off, myself, while I'm typing and then see the errors in a proofreading pass; which is how I do it in Word anyway.

Cheers,

R

Nicely done. (Reply to this comment)

Great job - just one thing you left out - in fact I only discovered it today. When you use the spell checker, right-clicking on a misspelled word brings up a list of suggested replacements.

Do you have any guess why they decided to default the spell checker to OFF instead of ON? Turning it on individually for each text box seems like a lot of extra key-clicks. I can imagine people opting not to use it, and having more typos as a result.

this be why I'm having all those problems with sentences being so spaced apart, bold words not coming out even though I placed a before it and a after it?

I thought it was my computer. I went to use the library computer and typed one review all over again and it did the very same thing.

Thanks so very much for writing this. Great and most helpful review of all. I truly appreciate it.

Have a great weekend!

My best,
Carol

Thanks so much for writing this. The new editor has been driving me crazy. Also, I did not know we could not link outside the site. I have done it on several reviews. I have never noticed anything happening. (product sites, etc.) Thanks for a great job. I understand the new editor much better now.

I dont like this new WYSIWYG editor. I always write all my reviews in Word and then just copy and paste them. Now I can't do that without getting a bunch of errors. Even if I used that "paste from word" feature, it still doesn't work. So I paste my entire review into notebook and then copy and paste from there. Then if I try to add bold or italics I keep getting an error that a beginning bold tag doesnt have an ending bold tag. Ugh. screw it. Cant they leave well enough alone!?

This is a wonderful piece! It is idiot simple (I hope, I may update that after my next review) but clear and well written. And what a service to all of us!

Thank you so much for this; the bit about italics not carrying from one line to the next; genius. Now I can fix it all. (I hope)

Thank you again. If I were an advisor of the right stripe; I would Most Helpful you.

Disgruntlement. (Reply to this comment)

The General discovered after the third review got buggered that the HTML editor was the way to go for him, line breaks, paragraph tags, and all. Of course, he uses Firefox 3 and Word 2007 (early adopter, what can you say?), so that's apparently just asking for trouble in the WYSIWYG editor.

Cutting and pasting into the HTML editor window works just fine, though. No problems at all there.

GD
