The 50 Best Games Available for Wii Numbers 20 to 11
20. Wii Fit Release Date: 5/19/2008 | Players: 1 | ESRB: E (Everyone) | Genre: Fitness Ratings: IGN: 8 | Gamespot: 7 | Nintendo Power: N/A | Test Freaks: 9.4 Building on the popularity of Wii Sports and the use of Mii's in the game, Wii Fit allows you to track your weight and exercise through Yoga, Strength Training, Aerobics, and Balance Games. Wii Fit introduces the Wii Balance Board and really begins to show the versatility and potential for the Wii while teaching you the importance of daily exercise. While some of the games are simple, Wii Fit does a great job of making you want to work out on a daily basis.
19. Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 Release Date: 11/13/2007 | Players: 1 | ESRB: T (Teen) | Genre: Shooter Ratings: IGN: 8.4 | Gamespot: 8 | Nintendo Power: 8 | Test Freaks: 8.6 If you enjoy WWII first person shooters, this is a great game for you - the graphics aren't anything to write home about, but the gameplay is absolutely fantastic. There are three different modes for you to play: campaign, arcade, and online multiplayer. Campaign is where you go through a whole story and levels, unlocking more as you go. Arcade is where you just go into a gun battle and shoot (fun if you just want to burn some testosterone or something) - you do not control movement at all, just shoot! Online is where you can play with up to 32 other people - good times for all! Overall, the game is a lot of fun if you are into first person shooters, especially WWII FSP's.
18. Blast Works: Build, Trade, Destroy Release Date: 6/11/2008 | Players: 1-4 | ESRB: E (Everyone) | Genre: Shooter Ratings: IGN: 8.1 | Gamespot: 8 | Nintendo Power: 8.5 | Test Freaks: 9.3 The second half of the game title gives away everything - Build, Trade, Destroy. Similar to old arcade games where you are constantly moving left to right, Blast Works is a game where you design your own spaceship - weapons and all - and battle the enemy as they constantly shoot at you. As you defeat ships, you have the ability to pick them up, meaning they become part of your ship, and they shoot constantly at the angle that you caught them at (they also can act as a shield). The graphics aren't anything great (fantastic if you compare them to the 1980's arcade games, though...), but there is definitely some fun to be had in designing your own ship (you can also design your own levels!), and if you are looking for some mindless gameplay, this is a great game for you!
17. Excite Truck Release Date: 11/19/2006 | Players: 1-2 | ESRB: E (Everyone) | Genre: Racing Ratings: IGN: 8 | Gamespot: 6.8 | Nintendo Power: 8.5 | Test Freaks: 8.8 Excite Truck requires that you hold your WiiMote horizontal and use it like a steering wheel, which is why it works very well with the Wii Wheel. Turn the steering wheel (or just your WiiMote) to steer, press the 2 button to accelerate, and align your tires by angling your WiiMote while your truck is in the air. You can play either against your friend (2 players max), or you can work together to try and clear levels and move up in the world of truck racing! A great game that is a must-have if you are looking for a good racing game!
16. Rock Band Release Date: 6/22/2008 | Players: 1-4 | ESRB: T (Teen) | Genre: Rhythm/Music Ratings: IGN: 7.9 | Gamespot: 8 | Nintendo Power: 8 | Test Freaks: 9.4 A huge hit on the PS3 and XBOX 360, Rock Band was released for the Wii much later than the other versions. Play with your friends as a band - with one of you singing, one on guitar, one on bass, and one rocking it on the drums - or play by yourself. You work your way through different songs, hitting combos and nailing solos! The reason Rock Band falls so low on the top 50 is for three reasons. First, it does not use any of the Wii technology - everything is plugged into the back of your Wii through the USB port, and the drum kit and microphone are actually wired in. Second, there is no online gameplay, so while in other versions you can play with your friends online, you cannot do that with the Wii version. Third, with no online capability, new songs are released through track packs, while the PS3 and XBOX 360 offer new songs as weekly downloads. Overall, Rock Band is a lot of fun, but the Wii version is not as good as the PS3 and XBOX 360 versions.
15. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All-Play Release Date: 8/26/2008 | Players: 1-4 | ESRB: E (Everyone) | Genre: Sports Ratings: IGN: 8.3 | Gamespot: N/A | Nintendo Power: 8.5 | Test Freaks: N/A Tiger Woods 09 is definitely an improvement over Tiger Woods 08, and while some of the annoying things have not been changed (and may never be able to), there are some new features that make it better. The mini-games, as always, are entertaining, and the putting, as always, is frustrating. The putting is more annoying on short puts than before, since the power adjusts waaaay down, but it's something that you can get used to. The best feature is the online capability, and especially the fact that everyone hits their shots at the same time. This gives you the ability to play online with your friends, but you do not have to watch everyone take their shots or go through practice swings. Once everyone has hit, everyone moves onto their next shot - this is great and makes it much faster than it could have been (I don't want to actually play a 4-hour round of online golf...). Overall, EA has done a good job, but left some room for improvement (again) in Tiger Woods '10 - but it is definitely a recommended buy!
14. Madden NFL 09 All-Play Release Date: 8/12/2008 | Players: 1-4 | ESRB: E (Everyone) | Genre: Sports Ratings: IGN: 8.6 | Gamespot: 7 | Nintendo Power: 9 | Test Freaks: 9 Apparently all 2009 versions of EA Games must be called All-Play... In the 20th installment of Madden, the game is finally smart enough to give you an IQ level based on how smart your play-calling is - definitely a good feature. Another great addition is the ability for you to draw a custom route for wide receiver while you are on the line! The controls are the same as the previous Wii versions, so I won't repeat them (go back and find Madden 07 and Madden 08). Definitely an improvement over Madden 07, and a HUGE improvement over Madden 08.
13. Trauma Center: New Blood Release Date: 11/20/2007 | Players: 1-2 | ESRB: T (Teen) | Genre: Action Adventure Ratings: IGN: 8.5 | Gamespot: 8 | Nintendo Power: 8 | Test Freaks: 9.1 The Wii sequel to Trauma Center: Second Opinion, New Blood offers a more difficult, new story line where you are constantly on the operating table. The controls are the same as Second Opinion, so I won't repeat them here. The best new feature is cooperative mode, where you can play with a friend and work together! Definitely a great feature! If you are remotely interested in medicine, or just want to have a good time playing doctor (by yourself or with a friend!), this is a great game for you!
12. Okami Release Date: 4/15/2008 | Players: 1 | ESRB: T (Teen) | Genre: Action Adventure Ratings: IGN: 9 | Gamespot: 9 | Nintendo Power: 7.5 | Test Freaks: N/A A great game that is similar to Zelda, you are a wolf making your way through the world fighting evil (you are actually a sun god in the form of a wolf, but that's neither here nor there). The controls are simple yet great - move with the Nunchuk and attack with the WiiMote (you can do more, but those are the most common). While this is basically a re-release for the Wii (it was originally for the PS2), the gameplay is much, much better than the original gameplay and makes it a must-have game!
11. Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure Release Date: 10/23/2007 | Players: 1-4 | ESRB: E (Everyone) | Genre: Action Adventure Ratings: IGN: 9 | Gamespot: 8.5 | Nintendo Power: 9 | Test Freaks: 9.6 Barely missing out on the top 10 is Zack and Wiki, a game for all ages that makes you think while utilizing the Wii's technology very well. You are looking for treasure (Barbaros' - you hopefully figured that out from the title), and you have to solve a variety of puzzles. The puzzles are more than just find something - you have to find things and utilize them in ways that you probably wouldn't have thought of at the beginning (change a centipede into a saw, for example). You also can only hold one item at a time, which is great (and very different than most games of this genre) because you have to figure everything out as you go (and also can't miss something and have to waste a huge amount of time going back to find it so that you can store it in your giant backpack). The game is basically one player, you can have four people playing but their role is to point out things on the screen - basically it's interactive watching. A great game and a narrow miss from the top 10!
That's it for 20 to 11 - be on the lookout for the top 10!
