Thinking Of You... (Reply to this comment)
by AinsleyJo
I haven't been getting over to Epinions as much as I once did, though I'm hoping this will change before long.
What a sorry bunch of foot-dragging was going on, and I believe that Kathy and John might still be here today had things been addressed faster.
By all means, send a copy of this to their kids!!!
Love & Prayers--
AJ :-)

Hi Kathy.
I found you in one of my comment boxes and thought I would come over and see what you're up to. I've been reading some of your reviews and I must say, you have a nice profile here and do a great job.
But the reason for commenting is because of this experience you wrote about. This is one of the more devastating cancer stories I have heard, not to say to anybody else that any cancer story is NOT devastating. I thank my lucky stars that neither I nor anybody in my extended family has had cancer. Strike that - one great aunt died from breast cancer. I think she was about 55 when that happened.
I offer you my sympathy as this is just a terrible family tragedy. I just cannot imagine what something like this would do to my family. It sounds like your sister and her husband made the most of the situation, as did you, and plowed ahead with all you had. And in such a positive manner. You sound like wonderful people.
I do know about loss, although due to other circumstances - I had a best friend suicide in 2005 (three years ago yesterday, in fact). So that was tough. But he wasn't family, so that cannot compare. I know that these things don't ever go away, but I trust you are keeping those positive and wonderful memories of your lost family members pocketed and retrieved every now and then! That's how I try to deal with the loss of my friend, Bob.
Anyhow, thanks so much for sharing this experience and bringing awareness to cancer prevention and early detection. That is a great service to everybody and judging from how many people who have commented here and rated your post, plenty have read it.
I wish you Happy Holidays and an inspiring 2009.
Take care, Kathy.
Yours,
Brad

I try to "buy pink" when possible. Tigerdirect held "pink Friday" when everyone else had black Friday, donating the money to cancer research. I was going to buy a television there, but they were sold out. I have also seen a fairly decent pink display at bed, bath and beyond. Research costs money...it's good that people are raising the needed funds for a disease that affects so many.
Thanks for sharing.

What a fantastic piece. Thanks so much for sharing; I look up to you for it, as I know it was painful.
I apologize for not seeing this submission earlier; I've checked my email and still don't see anything, but I should've kept in touch with you about it.
Thanks for the submission!

Dear Gill~
It helps to know about the free screening so if anymore from the UK reads this thy will be aware of it.
Sometimes people are not aware of things until they come across it. Perhaps you should write a review on this.
Thanks for stopping by.
My best,
Carol

Dear Talyseon~
I added the part of washing good with soap and water because I was only told NO DEODORANT the first time I called for a mammogram. They didn't explain why until I got there and asked why.
I appreciate you stopping by. Thanks so much.
My best,
Carol

Dear Rouchelle~
I am so proud of you doing this walk dear. Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment on my tribute to Kathy.
I really believe more people should get involved in this fight for breast cancer as there IS A CURE out there somewhere. The only problem is that people do not think it can happen to them until it does.
My best to you always Rouchelle.

A Heart-Warming Reminder (Reply to this comment)
by le_domaine
Carol, this is a commentary that is truly a PSA. Your beautiful sister-in-law, beloved brother, and the lovely children they left behind have been lovingly remembered and honored by these equally beautiful tribute. This is why I have pledged to walk in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure every October the past five years. It's why each year I walk, I vow to keep on doing so.
Bless you. And, thank you for sharing the memories.
Rouchelle

Late reading this, but better late than never. My condolences on your loss. Cancer indeed is a scary thing, but prevention started early will keep it at bay. Worry won't help matters.

...I feel for you and the other survivors around Kathy.
Thank you for adding the bit about washing with soap and water, and not using deoderant. It is simple things like this that derail people's good intentions, and once off track, they are not as likely to follow through.

In the UK we have free screening for cervical and breast cancer.
Our overburdened system is not perfect by any means, but this part does work.

I'm so sorry about your loss. As painful as it may have been to write the essay, you are probably saving the lives of others by publishing important information.
I live every day in fear of this insidious disease. Thank God my mother has been in remission for 9 years now, but we, her daughters can not help but wonder, if one of us will be next...
Those women without medical insurance can have access to a low-cost mammogram. Costs range between $80-120.
Otherwise, check with your local Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliate to get more information on planned free screening events.
Thank you for sharing your story.
Best,
Regina

A sad story well told.
I have at least one more review for Laura's write-off. A story about 4 young ladies ranging in age from 24 to 30 when first diagnosed with breast cancer.
As you so urgently point out, this disease can really strike at nearly any time and one must always fight for proper medical attention and care.
Again, very nicely told.

to hear about your loss(es). My older sister was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago. She went through chemo, breast removal, and radiation.
I'm thrilled to say she's doing fine today. Dealing with cancer was no picnic and to this day, I still worry about her. What if it comes back?
There's no promises in life, though, so our family tries to appreciate each day.
You truly honored both your sister-in-law (and brother) in your essay.
All my best.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. You are honoring your best friend's memory by urging women to push when push comes to shove.
I truly hope you are able to find peace amongst all this pain.
