Agree with the sentiment... (Reply to this comment)

...but would encourage a spell- and grammar-checker! Correcting the typos, misspellings, punctuation, and grammar would make this much better.
As to the start of this, I think that most rational economists and historians would trace our current woes back to Ronnie Ray-gun. His tax policies and insane "trickle-down" economics theory (that wasn't really his, but that he promoted) were the end of 25 years of economic prosperity in this country. He also loosed the reins on big business, sold out to the defense industry, and ran up unimaginable debt.

Yeah, its really sad that we as parents are forced to leave this kind of debt to our children. And we thought our teenagers got mad with us now! Wait till then? They really will be mad and with good reason.
Thanks for the comment and support.

to my daughter and she was telling me about her and her husbands financial problems...Thing it they both have good jobs and her hubby works at another job a few nights a week and they still are having great difficulty. My other daughter's husband is a real estate attorney...ha, real estate in Florida?...no business here for anyone in that business, until this year they were living very comfortably now they can hardly make ends meet. and both daughters savings are being eaten away...Hubby and I had to sell or restaurant at a loss a few years ago so now he works for someone else and we just keep our fingers crossed the restaurant stays open...he has given up on the thought of ever retiring at beleive me he is getting up in age, as am...thank goodness for social security and I really am afraid of what will happen to that years to come for all those who will need it.
It's a very scary world we live in and I know you and I have differed over politics in the past, but we have to pray, and I know you are someone who prays..:)), that Obama and this new government will really do what they promised and somehow get us out of this mess but we have to give them time...the mess left behind is way to big to fix overnight
Take care Leah, be strong and well

You more or less said it. It has been a long time since anyone in charge gave a $h*t about anyone outside of their immediate family, or their immediate political allies.
My only thought would be your last line - don't be afraid to offend those who disagree, no matter how harsh your words may be. What they have done to all of us is so much worse than the abbrasive tone in your writing. What the Big Business billionares have done to Washington, sending their insipid lobbyists to buy politicians, has in many instances led to American deaths, be it from cheated health insurance coverages (lax regulations), or mass outsourcing (causing wide-spread poverty).
The invisible enemies you lash out at are far more aggressive and vile then any word or essay, no matter how flaming your rhetoric may be.
I'm sure I speak for countless Americans when I say - I feel your frustration. Those of us who are lucky enough to still have a job are working our soul and spirits away, only to make money that goes straight back into the hands of those pathetic malefactors at the top.
In the realm of politics, who can we turn to? There doesn't seem to be a good guy - just different variations of bad guys.
I don't feel confortable knowing that prayer to a higher power is my only option. While it's fine in and of itself, it usually works best when done in conjunction with physical action and a more material route. Such a route doesn't seem to exist yet.
I hope you and your family fare well through whatever hardships this storm has, and will, throw at you.
- Chris

Re: I read about half of your essay (Reply to this comment)

You are right, there are a lot of people out there who do not deserve this to loose thier homes, but they are and there is nothing that can be done about it. The good thing for these people is that they can start over, debt free, rebuild their credit, rent a while and move foward. The banks can have their homes back and they can worry about selling them, seems to me that would be poetic justice for them since they helped to cause this mess. Just my thoughts.

Hubby wanted to buy a second home a couple of months ago. I looked at our finances and said, "Hell NO!" I could not see where we could afford an extra $1700/month for the type of home that hubby wanted to buy. We could barely make ends meet as it was, having to borrow out of our "rainy day funds" to meet special expenses such as a total brake job or wheel bearings. I was not about to let the expenses ride on our credit card for months at a time. We pay off our cc each month, no matter how much it hurts. All the lenders were more than willing to give us the loans, even in today's economy.
On the other hand, I do feel for folks who are losing their jobs due to the current economy, especially on each of the coasts. These folks have done nothing wrong to cause them to lose their income. Thankfully hubby and I are employed in the public sector, where our jobs rely on "criminal types," and believe me, the world is filled with them.

Thank you all for your comments and support.
This problem started back in the 90's under Clinton, as reported by the Today Show yesterday, and has been going on and on and on until there is just a big mess. One can only pray that our new Admin can fix it all before he leaves office in 4 years. In the mean time, there is nothing being done to help these people at all! Thousands a day are loosing their homes or being offered 50 years mortgages to keep them and no one cares in Washington at all.

Is the writing was on the walls for years with this Leah. The "free market capitalists" turned their heads to the shenanigans going on because their pockets were getting lined. I said it in 2004, if you remember, that we would have the country we deserved in 2008, and we do.

Political activism is needed.... (Reply to this comment)
by vicfar
Your analysis, in its simplicity, is totally correct. It is good that people like you are seeing the light, but they need to do more than vote, because Obama - I am afraid - isn't going to help you. You need to pick up a sign and protest in front of the White House or anything else to make your anger visible! The US government is for all Americans, not just for the big corporations.
Forget God, he hasn't been a good provider for 50% of the world which is starving or, if you think he favors America...well, he will help those who help themselves first.
Good luck

but am not sure what you think Washington should do. I believe you know enough about us that we struggle. However, we seem to always manage to get through. By God's provisions and his grace we are provided for.
I trust God that we will have food, and housing. It's hard to trust him, but it is our Lord who will get us out of this mess not politicians. (Even if it is bringing us home.)
Leah I am not getting into depth here but if you want to discuss things and also have someone hear your frustration know you can always email me.

I too... (Reply to this comment)
by jenniferkateab
have been angry with those in power in our country. I often have felt that getting elected and staying elected is the true "work" of some politicians and parties (though, not all). I also think that lobbyists have corrupted many ideals of those serving in Washington, and many of our leaders have unwittingly succumbed to their powerful sway.
Way back when the balloon loans were first marketed, I felt it in my bones that it was WRONG. I thought, why make a loan to some poor soul who can barely afford it, only to raise the price several years later? It seems like pulling the carpet out from under the homeowner. I believe folks should be responsible for the loans they take out ~ but maybe the wool was truly pulled over some people's eyes.
Anyway, I can't say I agree with everything you've said, but I am glad you had the courage to speak out your feelings.
Peace to you,
Jennifer
