I will give this some thought. My husband and I tried this once that's how we got attached to the last dog ten years ago. Have a blessed day.

Thanks! I was hoping to touch a few hearts, and to impress the point that rescue dogs are just great pets!!

Stella, you are never too old to love a dog in need of love! We have a 93 year old woman who fosters!! Fostering is great for "older" people, since there is no long term committment to the care of the dog. The dog is just passing through, and needs a place to bunk and love for a few days to a few weeks!!

Hi (Reply to this comment)

I have had many Leo's in my life. I have 3 of them right now. The last one is now 10 years old. He was just like the dog you described. The only thing is I am too old to take anymore, so I am grateful to people like you. Have a Merry Christmas. Stella

Hi Terri
I pulled that image off the internet but she is a dead ringer for my gorgeous green eyed Chloe. We adopted her and her sister Phoebe (who had kidney disease and despite major efforts passed away at only 7 years old) They were rescued as kittens from a feral colony, and Chloe had been adopted out once before we had the chance to adopt her. The family returned her! I can't imagine why, but it was our great fortune. She's tiny but has a huge heart, is an angel, and is so affectionate. Maybe we had better luck because we adopted her sister too. Our dog Rudy, was left at my office in a box with a baby bottle and blanket. He was only days old, and required bottle feeding with replacement formula for about 8 weeks. I didn't think he'd survive! He's almost 12 now and an absolute joy. They have enriched our lives in so many ways. ADOPT!

I have always said that rescued animals make the best pets. They just seem grateful to have a home and will stick with you through thick and thin. I think they are so appreciative in having a home.
Wonderful review as always,
Cindi

Oh hey, I only noticed last night that the cat in your profile pic looks JUST like my kitty, Zane! Zane came in as a foster at 3 weeks old with his mom and 5 litter mates. The 6 kittens, and likely the mother, all have feline herpies. 2 of them, my Zane and Jack, were deemed "unadoptable", so they stayed. We thought Zane was going to lose his right eye, but it is only clouded over.
By the way, he is Zane the Gray Kitty, get it?? I am not a Zane gray fan, but I could resist the name!!
Go rescue owners and lovers!!
Terri :-)

What makes me upset is not only the whole designer dog thing, but when I meet a breeder and they say, "I breed pugs(or any other breed), so I KNOW my dogs will never be in a place like this!" Um, YEAH SURE!! That is why there are every breed imaginable breed specific rescues! River is a PomChi, a designer dog who is absolutely the greatest, and he was a STRAY, AND he is EXACTLY what people who breed PomChi's want in a dog...Some of the dogs through my house and the rescue I can "understand", but most of them, like River, just make my jaw drop and want to cry!!
I also get upset with the whole camp of thinking that if people PAY for a dog, they will automatically take care of that dog! This idiot paid almost $700.00 for Leo, we had teh receipt! 5 of my 6 were free, and Diego was "on sale" at the San Diego pound for $35.00. I won't tell you how much money I have spent in vet bills and such, it would make your head spin!!
All 6, er 5, of all dogs are rescues...we recently lost Daisy, so saying 5 is REALLY strange! All but 1 of our many cats is a rescue, including 3 bottle babies that we bottle fed and raised from just a few days old!!
I have A LOT of love and respect for others who will bring a rescue into their home and love them!
Kiss Monster!! That is what Leo became!! He was an absolute BEAST when he got here, when he left he was a KISS MONSTER!! I LOVE that description!!
Julie, Leo was lucky we gave him a chance. We, and everyone else that knows Leo, were lucky to have him in our lives! We were ALL afraid of him, everyone in the rescue. No one else wanted to take him home. However, by week 12, we were ALL loving him, and just wanted to love on him and cuddle him. He would sit on my lap like a kid, with his paws on my shoulder.
Thanks for reading, and the kind words. It is exactly what I hoped when I wrote it.

wrote this piece, Terri! It just hurts my heart when people buy a "designer" dog, then tire of the responsibility.
I don't know how anyone could abandon a pet, but we've had three rescues (two cats--both now living in heaven after very long lives, and one dog--our beloved little kiss monster we've had for two months) so far and I wouldn't do it any other way.
Leo was lucky to have you both as foster parents!
Julie :)

I think all my scars from that first "shearing" have healed now :-) Funny thing was, even in the first couple of weeks, when he didn't really want to be touched at all, he let me put him in the bathtub and shampoo him. He even seemed to enjoy it.
