How To Buy The Right Motorcycle
by donc230 | Dec 16 '08
The right motorcycle for the right rider is like meeting the angles, while the wrong one is like a trip across the River Styx.

You said it Don the article writer - it's all about you and what you want out of the motorcycle experience. I just got a 2009 RKC bagger so I guess I'm in the same slow lane with Don, the commenter here. ;> Don - I'm glad you slowed down and found the Harley rider in you! :>

button here?? Oh dang.. I have to!
The other day you said, "maybe someone needs to do a MC purchase advise article".. and I wrote this column in my head.. Of course as always you wrote it better on-line. Excellent!

Its funny the response I get when I tell people that I'm not really "into' Harleys, I bought it to slow down some. Slow Down? Ya, thats right. Slow down, enjoy the ride and enjoy my dreams. Much different than what most who are new to the community imagine themselves in. Mine is to be back on the farm putting around on an old tractor racking hay or something. The HD is as close to a tractor on two wheels as you can get, so I get to enjoy both. An old chugging motor and riding. Good combo for someone trying to slow it down.

Again, really great advice for a very emotional and unique mode of travel.

I've had success buying used as I'm "my own mechanic" and I can always spot potential problems or stay away from an improperly maintained MC that could break down any second.

My father in law and I recently went bike shopping and I'm amazed at the selection and affordability of owning new plus having "new" technology. I.E. "fuel injection" and "ABS or Anti-lock brakes" Bimmers have both....

Good advice as always,

Pat
