About Me: If it's not going to matter in 10 years, why sweat it?

You talk, it types

Pros:Aids my aching arms
Cons:Training takes patience
The Bottom Line: I wish it had been available five years ago.

I hope you will ignore the actual errors in this review. This review is written by dictation to ViaVoice enhanced addition. This is a new software I purchased because of the restrictions I experience through repetitive stress injury.

Throughout the course of the last five years mobility in both my arms has been difficult with chronic pain. My hands are often numb and I've experienced agonizing pain in my wrists, forearms, elbows, upper arms and net neck. I have three equipped workstations at my office and that my home in an attempt to deal with this problem. At one time a few years ago my doctors suggested the only solution for me was to cease working on the computer. Since I am a writer and researcher, whose income is dependent upon the computer, this was a largely unsatisfactory answer to my dilemma. Paragraph

At the moment my hands are in my pocket snuggling for warmth. I am writing this review with the aid had found. I am writing this review with the aid of headphone. I think back to the occasion three years ago when I was not able to pick up a single sheet of paper. A few days later I was rushed to hospital, having lost my speech, my vision, and my ability to walk. I thought I was suffering a stroke. Indeed I was only suffering a reaction to the anti inflammatory drugs that my doctor offered me to reduce the pain of repetitive stress injury.

Including taxes ViaVoice enhanced addition cost $260 (Canadian). I know the word should be an addition not abolition but ViaVoice is making its own mistakes. Despite these mistakes I think the program is wonderful. I expect with frequent use I will be able to use it for a great deal of work of professionally and personally . the relatively few errors you see here are a good testimonial to the excellent quality of ViaVoice.

The program I selected operates with and iMac running OS 9.1. ViaVoice enhanced requires a minimum processor of 300 MHz. I was not able to install it on my iMac at home, and am about to explore an earlier version called ViaVoice Millenium. ViaVoice enhanced edition for the Mac requires USB ports, 64 MB available gram, and audio output jack, and a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM for installation. I have installed it on my iMac at work and on my iBook at home. I am searching for a way to transfer the training I have done on the iBook to my iMac at work. ViaVoice also makes a program compatible for Mac OS X. The enhanced edition will not run on Mac OS X.

In providing version specific software ViaVoice is demonstrating its commitment to Apple software and to Mac users. ViaVoice is owned by IBM, and of course makes Windows compatible versions of ViaVoice.

Before deciding to purchase ViaVoice I also investigated a software program called iListen. while this is a software apparently developed for the mac it is not compatible with the OS 9.1. As I recently lost a hard drive on my iMac at home and have just rebuilt machine, including the painful process of upgrading drives to make my peripherals-the scanner and printer-compatible with OS 9.1 I was not willing to go through another process of making my iMac compatible with iListen. iListen is only supported by OS 9.2.

ViaVoice enhanced edition is particularly useful to me because it allows me to transfer text that I have dictated to following programs: America Online and mail 4.0, AppleWorks 6, Microsoft outlook Express 4.5, Microsoft word 98, the door for 0.3 and Netscape communicator 4.7

In my day to day operations at work I am able to dictate instructions to my staff quicker than I can type them, with fewer typographical errors. Most brilliantly ViaVoice knows how to spell everything which can only improve my performance as a manager.

I highly recommend the software. For those who are mildly disabled with the daily pain caused by repetitive stress injury relief is here. For those who are severely disabled and suffer the complete inability to use their arms or hands this program provides a wonderful means of communication. Indeed in prognosis for recovery from repetitive stress injury my doctor suggested the only hope was for me to stop typing. He predicted my condition would only worsen if I did not. Indeed the day I could no longer hold a sheet of paper I had nightmarish visions of future wherein I have lost my ability to pursue my passion, writing. Worse I feared the loss of my ability to earn an income.

Once more I urge you to ignore any errors you may perceive in this review. This is an actual dictation to ViaVoice Software after only a few hours of training on my computer. I consider this a hearty and thumbs-up for ViaVoice.

One further comment, after each dictation ViaVoice analyzes the document I have written checking for words it does not know so that they may be added to my vocabulary. With each use of ViaVoice its accuracy and proofs. This is a major step forward from voice recognition software which I tested three years ago. Future research will not out make it better.
