This treatise on "time" may help you to better manage it--especially if you're "Type A."

Thanks, E-Claire! And the power of your words come through with such clarity that I'm going to have to read your stuff even more! It can be tough, though, juggling all of the responsibilities in life (especially when you start adding more when you become a parent)! Funny thing is, at some point, you either start to get better than you ever thought you could be, or I guess you "get help" (press the "Easy" button, lol). Getting the proper rest and staying healthy is definitely key--and prioritizing.

Hey Kevin, returning your visit with a visit. You're a nice guy, exceptionally good at writing up highly informative tips and money-saving/grubbing tutorials; that, I definitely I remember about you from previous run-ins.

Anyway, (and in response to this particular article you wrote), I admitted early defeat trying to keep up a Type A front - it's just not me! Regardless of Type though, time management ideas are always welcome and very much appreciated.

Thanks again for the visit!

I'm glad you got a chance to read and reflect! But, yeah--these days, people are so concerned about doing things while they are "still young," that they never really get a chance to grow old gracefully. Everybody seems to have to "hurry up and wait," and that made me pretty stressed.

Dr. Robert Maynard Hutchins of the University of Chicago wrote a satire, The Zuckerkandl Papers, which dealt with your concern. The thesis of the learned Professor Zuckerkandl was: "The purpose of life is to get through it."

That seems to me what education in America has come to imparting.

A very interesting essay.

Thanks for the comment, LeDomaine! I read another book, Setting Limits for the Strong-Willed Child, by Mackenzie, Ed.D., just recently, and I gained a lot of calm in my household (AND in my classrooms, as a substitute teacher), as well as a completely unexpected better understanding of myself! I have a strong-willed 4YO who has been "running" us for a while--I wish I'd had this book 3 years ago, but am only SO HAPPY that I've finally gained the knowledge! He's also written Setting Limits in the Classroom.

Kevin!

Now, since I would like to try your sage advice (right, I am a type A personality, too) I must confess, I don't have a whole lot of time :)

On the plus side, I've always thought of my propensity to rush here, hurry there, do this at warp speed, and that at the speed of light/sound was because I'm a mom and a teacher. We have to major in multi-tasking. Oh, well, enough of that. Gotta go. I've run out of time! [Gotta read that book you so value. Maybe I can get some help from it, too!]LOL

Thanks, Missy! I have to give most of the credit to my karate family--and the Mental Karate author, Tom Muzila. Be sure and check out that review, for more along this line of thinking!

Actually, I've got "Reese Witherspoon" runnin' through my head--charming Alabama-pretender that she is (now that you've got me thinkin')!

Having a great band like "Alabama" makes being from Alabama more than just having "banjo on my knee," lol.

Cool. You're from the SOUTH!

You're a southern boy
Southern born and bred
You've got Sweet Home Alabama buzzing all around in your head

Yeah, Dusty. Having a great band like "Alabama" makes being from Alabama more than just having "banjo on my knee," lol. They are pretty famous. The tragic irony illustrated by the "shaking hands with the clock" line was immediately apparent--my wife (and I) understood right away, and she seemed to indicate some willingness to get away from this bad habit. That the clock had "hands" (you would think this would be the most obvious part) had not really occurred to me. This is probably because I don't even wear a WATCH anymore, and mostly rely on digital clocks. I got TIRED of replacing watch bands, and a cleaning service employee stole my last nice watch, many moons ago, as I'd left it on my desk due to the band being broken. Oh well!

Tell your wife it will get better. We eventually burn ourselves out.

Hmm, that doesn't sound good but when it happens, we take time to breathe. She'll understand.

I'm on a roll and I'm ready to rock. " Maybe it was my mind trying to picture "shaking hands with a clock," I mean--that is DEEP(LY Tragic)!

LOL. I wasn't sure if you had heard of Alabama--they're country--anyway, I tried to get my mind around your mind trying to picture shaking hands with a clock. :)

It does make sense when you think about it...we're in such a rush to do it "all," we are shaking hands with the clock to accomplish so much.

Well, the clock does have hands doesn't it? *grin*

Well, I went on over and started reading the lyrics. She looked surprised (and tried to hide it) and said,"Did you write that?" "No, it's a song by Alabama," I replied. She said, Oh. That's me." I replied,"I know."

Alabama, eh? I especially like this line--"Shaking hands with the clock
I can't stop
I'm on a roll and I'm ready to rock. " Maybe it was my mind trying to picture "shaking hands with a clock," I mean--that is DEEP(LY Tragic)! I'm going to have to share that with my wife! I'm going to casually stroll in and "wonk" her with this right now..!

Thank you for that!

sang a song and I remember the first time I heard it and how it made me feel.

Ya see, I guess I'm a Type A, or was...always felt I had to hurry and get things done..rushing and rushing from one to the other and never really taking the time to enjoy "life."

I must get my house work done--I must rush to the store--I must get the ironing done--I must finish up the quilt I'm making--I must do this--I must do that--go, go, go! Rush, rush, rush.

And, then I hear this.....

I'm in a hurry to get things done
Oh, I rush and rush until life's no fun
All I really gotta do is live and die
But I'm in a hurry and don't know why.

Can't be late
I leave in plenty of time
Shaking hands with the clock
I can't stop
I'm on a roll and I'm ready to rock.

I hear a voice
And it says I'm running behind
I better pick up my pace
It's a race and there ain't no room for second place

There's more but it sounded so "me!"

Now, I still rush but not so fast! :)

Good review.
