The Bottom Line Do not bake in the oven it'll turn out like cheap steak shaving cream is cheap some people like it but in the end who wants a soapy glove
For Gloves under $150what you will need:clean Hand/Dish towelOld clean Pillow caseMink oil, yes it is more expensive but it is made from all the stuff leather needs and its natural.StringA dryer home or laundromat 1] soak towel in clean water wring it out a bit and form into a ball2] Wet the pillow case enough so its completely damp3] apply mink oil to the inside of the glove where your fingers are to be placed, don't go overboard4] place your hand in the glove and throw a ball into the pocket for several minutes until you feel the inside conforming to your hand5] spread some mink oil [not too much] to the webbing both inside and out especially where the web meets the pocket6] place the wet towel inside the pocket and tie it tightly with string7] place it in the dryer for 8-10 minutes on high heat, Be sure to check on it mid way through. Leather is in effect meat and meat is at its toughest when it is overcooked so be sure not to overdo it in the dryer. And I might add why you really don't want to put your grade A steak in the oven!8] Take glove out and play with it, throw the ball into the pocket for at least ten minutes. By this time it should be 90% dry unless you overdid it with the towel. If so give it 5 more minutes in the dryer tied up with the ball in the pocket instead of the towel.9] Apply mink oil to the glove and once again play with it a little bit being sure to round the fingers in towards the pocket. Also flatten it out making sure the thumb aligns with the pinky when doing so, this process will create a soft crease at the bottom and allow it to close more completely when its time to hold onto the ball. In fact you will find the glove almost closing by itself over time, which is the sign of a correctly broken in glove.10] Put the ball into the glove and tie it tight11] place it into the damp pillow case and head for the dryer once again for 5 minutes or so, the damp pillow case will allow the outside of the glove and the web to soften a bit more12] take it out spread a little more mink oil around and you should be able to begin using it in practice almost immediately [provided of course that it was a leather glove] each day you will notice it becoming more pliable, be sure to shun the temptation to really spread the mink oil on, give it time and after about a week or so faintly spread a little more mink oil in the spots that seem to be most stubborn. Expensive glovesJust a little bit of Mink oil, on the inside where you place your hand and outside, meaning in the fingers, web and the crease you will create just off the bottom of the glove near the pinky. Then; play catch like heck being sure to intermittently round the fingers toward the pocket and flatten the glove with pinky and thumb aligned. If you cannot find a catching partner do it the old fashioned way:Straddle the curb in front to your house, one foot on the top and one in the street, crouch and just start short hopping the ball into your glove. Good for the glove and great for hand eye coordination.
