This is a very lame list that I have here, jackai. My health had really begun to go down hill at the time. [I've considered deleting this epinion.] But I'll stand by Marisa Tomei. No one can perhaps explain how she received an Oscar at such an early age. It has certainly been a kind of proverbial Oscar Curse for her, but she turned in some very sensitive performances over the years. I think she deserved an Oscar for her work in THE WRESTLER.
Besides, I had an old friend, a Christian Scientist, who was secretly nuts about her. Unknown to his church or familly, he died with her name on his lips. I made the pick, partly in his honor, not too long after his passing.
Thank you for a most reasonable comment though, on such a dull piece of mine.

This was a bit of a late rubber stamp, but I just wanted you to know I stopped by.
I know these are your pics, but Marisa Tomei? Really? I hear she did a fine job in the movie, but I think the Academy still can't get the taste of "My Cousin Vinny" out of their mouths. Ha!

Must tale a look at WALL-E. Have seen SLUMDOG now. Better than I thought it would be.
Good comment.

I've only watched WALL-E and Iron Man of the ones nominated. Great that WALL-E won ONCE, but should've a lot more. Irritating that Slumdog was being courted like royalty.

I thought Penn's remarks were incredibly focused and effective, for this kind of thing. Milk would have understood perfectly that you take this kind of opportunity to make a relevant political statement, not pat yourself on the back or thank everyone you've ever known.
That Sean Penn could "become" Harvey Milk in the movie was his homage to the gay revolution.
Heck, when Ophra interviewed him the next morning, he pointed out that his wife and children give him grief if he praises them publicly. [I suspect because, in the past, he has neglected them at important moments.]
I'm working on the black and whites, officer.
Thank you for the understanding.

I'm still waiting for a review from you of a black-and-white movie.
I was waiting for Sean Penn to mention Harvey Milk and possibly update us (since his previous appearance collecting an Oscar) on WMD. He did get in a lot though.

Actually, andaryl, the pick of Michael Shannon was one of two acts of defiance toward the popular wisdom. In any case, I'm notoriously bad at sifting through the entrails of the Academy.
I'll have to search out your list. Epinions was even more tardy than usual getting the Academy site up this year. Thank goodness for Sue, who has to go at the last minute every year to get it done.
Good luck.

think Heath Ledger could miss out? I know where you're coming from on Michael Shannon it was certainly an interesting performance. As for the rest, well I posted my own so there's no need to comment.
