I look forward to reading the next 1000. If I were to write a Top 10 piece, I'd probably include three of the Oscar-nominated Best Pictures, as well as some gems like Rachel Getting Married and Tropic Thunder. It was a good year for some special films. Thanks for sharing!

You're absolutely right, it was released in 2007. I saw it in early 2008 and had been thinking that the UK release date was in '08 - but having rechecked, it was in fact December 2007.
Have updated the list, thanks for pointing this out. Wasn't planning on upsetting anyone, let alone movie buffs! :-D (Though my list will probably upset most movie buffs as it it...)

Actually I hope that before long I also disagree with this list... I'm sure there are some great films made in 2008 that I just haven't seen yet - will probably start catching up with Slumdog sometime.

How can you comment on the stellar acting in The Dark Knight and not even mention Gary Oldman as Lt. Gordon? He should have been nominated for a Best Supporting Oscar as well, in my opinion.

Enchanted is a 2007 film that was released in November of 2007 to a wide audience. You can't put it in a 2008 list even if you had seen in it 2008 in a medium other than watching it in a theater.
I know I'm being someone that's more about rules about what films you can put and not put in the list. Yet, you can't annoy a majority of angry film buffs who are stickler to those rules.

Wall-E and The Dark Knight were the only two films I felt were really something to write home about this year. I did enjoy the two Death Note movies I saw in the theater, but I believe they were actually released in Japan a couple years ago, so i don't think they count.
And wow, you're in the quadruple digits now! This is either a major accomplishment or it means you have too much time on your hands. Maybe both! :)
