Petsmart Is A Smart Start From The Heart

The Bottom Line This is the finest example of what can happen when someone actually puts the object of their charity, in this case--the little animals like me--first.
Hi! You don't know me very well, but my name is Taylor. You might know my Pawpa--he's known around here as Berniez40. I figured while he was out taking notes for reviews on golf balls, basses, and golf clubs, I'd borrow his computer and give the folks that saved my life a plug. You see, I'm a Jack Russell, Beagle, Chihuahua mix, which makes me very high maintenance. Had I not run across the folks at Furever Friends, one of the many rescue organizations Petsmart Charities supports, I would not be here today talking to you. You see, unlike other organizations that don't run no kill shelters(contrary to popular belief), and live off of their name; Petsmart saves the life of and finds a home for a homeless dog or cat every minute they are open. That's the very bestest average there is. That's really important to me, because this past Christmas, while I was getting new chew toys, and other cool stuff, people were dumping animals in our neighborhood. That's not very nice, but I guess they figure since we live near a nice lake and a park someone will just magically come along, see them, fall madly in love, and give them a home. I really thought humans were smarter than that. It made me very very sad.
In my case, I had double cherry eye, which is an infection of the inner eyelid that both Beagles and Chihuahuas are prone to. It hurt really really bad. They called it double because I had it in each eye. That operation alone costs a whole $850 per eye. That's a buncha bones. As much as my new family loves me, I know they would have never been able to afford picking me up out of a shelter and spending $1700 on a stray little dog like me. Besides, I was way across the state in Vernon Texas at the time. Out there they don't use little dogs like me. They use big ranch and hunting dogs. So basically I was thrown into a shelter and given a death sentence as the wrong kind of dog, in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Then the folks at Furever Friends came along and sent me to Ft. worth Texas and payed for my eyes.
I felt much better, but I was still sad. I went through 3 foster homes because I am so intelligent and need a lot of maintenace, and a job to do at all times. (My Pawpa says sometimes I'm more like a Terrierist than a Terrier.) By now some of the other charities would surely have put me out of my misery. I really don't think that's very charitable, and the only misery I had was wanting to be able to exercise my licker license, and shower my owners, whoever they might be, with kisses. I'm glad Petsmart and Furever Friends never gave up on me.
My new family had to pony up $250 to cover the basic costs of the operations I went through. Thank goodness the Veterinarian associated with this group was so generous so that my Mama and Pawpa could afford me. I may just be a little dog, but I hear there's something going on out there called a recession. It's very very scary, and it's hurting all these charities really really badly. So please help them.
Well when Pawpa is out reviewing golf balls and such, I sometimes surf the internet. I found a site called Charity Navigator after reading the boards here, and I was impressed. Petsmart Charities is so much more efficient than the others. They don't have a CEO who just voted himself a $30,000 raise with your money like that big named charity in New York. How many of you folks out there are making $425K ? Petsmart Charities places more animals, and they have a network of Vetrinarians, Foster Homes, and Caretakers, so little trouble makers like me can actually find a home. Thanks to them--I am the happiest little dog in The Whole Wide World.
Thanks for reading my stuff.
Taylor
