Silencio!...Sam-Pro

The Bottom Line There's gonna be alotta fun and exciting stuff coming from yours truly in the near future...so stay tuned to EPINIONS...please!
Yes...I know...I've been kinda quiet on this site as of late. That is because I have been involved in a few personal projects...as of late. I'm spending much of my free time getting into shape and resurrecting a red Dodge Neon that sat a full six years in my driveway.
Don't think for one moment that I've turned my back on reviewing phono cartridges and speakers...or just plain good ole audio stuff for that matter. Oh no...not the case at all! In fact...I am currently building an inexpensive sub-woofer with parts purchased from a very nice vendor on ebay.
Based on designs from Roy Allison and AR...The entire kit costs less than forty bucks with s&h and requires you to supply your own one foot cube enclosure. When completed...I'll have a full report with the sub hooked up to a beautiful pair of small speakers from Audio Pro of Sweden. These cherry finished wonders cost me all of $75 again from yet another benevolent Ebay vendor who purchased a surplus shipment of the gems. The Ego 212 is indeed marvelous but will it warrant an absolute "BEST BUY" rating as per my report in the very near future? Will the marriage work? Or will this lead to a departure of some sort? Who knows...but I am both confident and excited! This is going to be a fun time here on EPINIONS for me! Oh...yes those phono cartridges...the Sumiko Pearl MM and the entry level Benz-Micro MC models that I plan to purchase will be reviewed along with the very low cost but high performing TCC TC-760LC Phono Preamp that features not only superb audiophile performance fo moving magnet enthusiasts such as myself...but alas...a quality moving coil input is also part of the deal! Cost to you and me...a walloping $80!
With the economy in sad shape but with the hope of a brilliant new President and a "Yes we can" attitude...the "poor man" may not be so abandoned when it comes to good audio gear. These are troubling yet exciting times that we live in with a great hope for tomorrow but spending a couple of thousand bucks on speakers like the Bose 901 VI or the Vandersteen 2Ce Signature II is just not an option for most of us.
In fact...my upcoming plan to purchase a $500 pair of phenomenal Winslow Burhoe Direct Acoustics Silent Speakers Series II that may very well signal a new benchmark of excellence that also warrants psychiatric help for anyone spending more than this for speakers will unfortunately have to be scrapped as I am strapped!
Unfortunately...I'll just have to postpone that plan for the moment {maybe forever!} as funds don't allow for that circumstance to unfold and besides...my $111/Pr. cherry finished Polk R-30's still remain the very best of any loudspeaker system I know of currently available and no...sorry....nothing in the past can touch it either! So why bother? The accuracy of musical timbre and warmth when coupled to not only vintage equipment but alas...as I have found a modern Digital Amplifier/Tuner that mates well with the Polks...a modestly priced JVC RX-D205S that leaves other modern crappy stuff in the dust! Yes...a full report is forthcoming!
I mean...my God...it's ridiculous for us poor folk to fork over that kinda cash and makes you wonder why these damn speaker builders don't get back to just building state-of-the-art affordable speakers. In fact...in an upcoming report I am going to issue a challenge to the speaker maker I admire the most...Matthew Polk.
I also plan to report on four speaker cable/interconnects from Kimber Kable, Mirasonic and Knoconceptz.com. You just cannot underestimate the importance of good connectivity when it comes to your new loudspeaker system purchase! You can spend hundreds or even thousands of bucks on a great speaker system but it won't mean Bo Didley if you don't use good wire that will allow the music to flow cleanly and dynamically with transparency and three-dimensional detail into your humble surroundings.
At any rate...it's good to be back and am looking forward to reading your stuff and rating them too! We've been silent too long...haven't we?...PJS Series II
