Thanks for this essay (Reply to this comment)

I recently had an odd condition that involved frequent falls, sometimes up to 5 or 6 a day. It's controlled by anti-seizure medication, though not epilepsy per se. Nevertheless, reading up on epilepsy taught me a lot about what folks have to go through. The organizations you mention are all worthy causes and have my support regardless of whether any are picked for the April thing.
My best to you and yours.

Even as an adult I have had problems. When I was pregnant, I was accosted by a woman who thought I was wrong to have children and I was just helping to "spread my disease" as she put it. My kids are healthy with no signs of this condition but it could affect their children. My grandaughter is also okay. Fingers crossed! Thank you for the comment.

Glad to hear something worked for him and the diet does work for many. Not me and many others though. Hopefully research will come up with something soon. Thanks for the comment.

I work with a woman who is an epileptic. Like you, she has it under control now (in fact, I never would have known had she not told me), but other kids really gave her a rough time when she was growing up. I guess they didn't understand what it is and they were afraid of "catching" it, but by shunning her, they made things this woman feel even worse.
Thanks for bringing these organizations to our attention. There are so many worthy charities I may have to donate to even if Epinions doesn't pick them.

The Charlie Foundation... (Reply to this comment)
by PattyTherre
...saved my son's life. He suddenly began having seizures at age 4 for no reason that we could find. Not just a few but 100's a day. It was just awful. Medicines did nothing but make him mean and groggy and there seemed to be no hope. We went to hospital after hospital and were told that he would revert back to an infant state and eventually die.
I found the Charlie Foundation, wrote to Jim Abrahams and, to make a very painful story short, we ended up at Johns Hopkins. My son was put on the ketogenic diet and, 18 days after we came home, his seizures stopped. He never had another one and he is now 18. He is 6'3" and a strapping, healthy, smart man. He has not taken any medication since he was 5 and he's just fine. Watching a little boy suffer as I did and, later, many little kids suffer in the hospital, this is my charity of choice. Even if it isn't chosen, I will donate. Anything to help people to be aware that there is hope, help, and alternatives out there for their kids!
