The Bottom Line Trent Reznor Creates His Best Album Ever with Help from Timbaland's Groundbreaking Production.
Ladies & Gentlemen... Nine Inch Nails' brainchild Trent Reznor has just released a brand new album for the masses which is collaboration with famed hip-hop producer Tim "Timbaland" Mosley for a record entitled Strobe Light. Produced by Timbaland with tracks written by Reznor, Timbaland, and various cohorts of Timbaland including Justin Timberlake. Strobe Light aka Halo 28 is an album that takes NIN's dark, eerie musical sound to newer heights through Timbaland's groundbreaking production. Featuring guest appearances from fellow NIN associates like live-band members Robin Finck, Ilan Rubin, and Justin Meldal-Johnsen along with Maynard James Keenan of Tool and Ministry's Al Jourgensen, the album also features Jay-Z, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Bono of U2, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, and Sheryl Crow. The result is the best album Trent Reznor has ever made for NIN. The first track is an intro skit in which Timbaland and Trent Reznor talks about music that people can dance to see and Trent saying "Yo Tim, give me a beat" that leads to the first song Everybody's Doing It. With its grinding beat, squealing synthesizers and Reznor singing through a vocoder, it's a song about sex that features Bono and Chris Martin singing the chorus of "Everybody's doing it for the world/You gotta get that girl". Reznor continues to sing with his vocoder as Jay-Z suddenly appears with raps about how cool Trent Reznor is as he also talks about Beyonce's great *ss with Trent say, "Yo Jay, can I tap that *ss?" The next song is Black T-Shirt is a track with driving tribal beats that sputter through the song with frenetic, droning synthesizers and driving guitars from Robin Finck as Reznor sings about his black t-shirt and how much it comforts him. Then he goes into a soulful vocal ala Prince saying, "I want you black t-shirt, I wanna f*ck you! You make so hot! My underwear is full of love! I WANT YOU BABY". The album's first single is a duet is an electro-folk duet with Sheryl Crow entitled P*ssygrinder. Starting with a smooth, acoustic track with Timbaland's sputtering, hypnotic beats, Reznor sings somberly about how lovely Crow's p*ssy tastes like as Crow sings that it's because it's the most rich p*ssy and said that only Trent can eat that p*ssy so good. Trent then sings the chorus of "I wanna grind on your p*ssy, it tastes so good" with Sheryl singing, "You are my p*ssygrinder and I love you". With the tempo picking up as both vocalists try to out-sing each other, Trent ends the song saying, "I'm glad I'm your p*ssygrinder and I love you." Coffin On The Dancefloor is a song that rocks with club beats as Trent saying "I ain't part of you b*tch!" as he grinds on dance beats with a falsetto vocals as he yells, "get on the dance floor". With Timbaland doing his trademark "Hey" in the background, it's a song that is sexy and danceable. This Rhythm Is Infected is a million songs rolled into one with Latin rhythms, grinding beats, droning guitars, and squealing synthesizers as Trent breathes through the song with a raspy vocal as he talks to girls and saying "Dance to the rhythm, this rhythm is infected, you want to infect my body, I want to infect your soul" in the chorus. With a shimmering, swanky guitar solo from an uncredited John Mayer, the song turns out to be a fantastic dance-rock song with vibrant Latin rhythms reminiscent of the Miami Sound Machine. Slide To The Darkside is a smooth, mid-tempo song with funky guitars, swooning synthesizers, and vibrant beats from Timbaland as it features a Star Wars featuring the voice of Darth Vader. Trent sings in a smooth croon as he delves into dark lyrics and saying that happiness sucks. With Timbaland's superb, layered production filled with bleeping synthesizers, Reznor says "Come on baby, slide to the dark side" in the chorus as the voice of Emperor Palpatine says "yes". The next single set to be released next month is a sequel to Closer entitled Even Closer. With its beats from the original song, it goes into a more up-tempo arrangement with bleeping synthesizers as Trent sings about sex and such that leads to the chorus as he's joined by Justin Timberlake saying "I really want to f*ck you like an animal b*tch/I wanna get inside of your p*ssy/I wanna let you know that I love you/And I wanna get even closer to God!" The song goes into a dance break with Maynard starting to sing in the break saying "get even closer so I can love you like I do/Baby, I just want to f*ck you like a f*cking animal!" The silky, droning On The List (She's Not) is a song that is reminiscent of the stuff from Year Zero but with more throbbing bass track and Timbaland's smooth arrangements of beats and synthesizers. Trent sings lyrics about a girl he don't want to see. Obviously, the song is about supposed ex-girlfriend Britney Spears saying how much she broke his heart and he don't want to see her again. Clap Track Crack Slap is a track with clapping beats, Michael Jackson samples, and sputtering synthesizer tracks that has Trent singing in a rap-like rhythm with beatboxing in the background by Justin Meldal-Johnsen and Ilan Rubin doing hic-up noises. With whimsical lyrics like "I wanna clap track on that *ss, I wanna crack slap that cl*t, I wanna make you wet". The very fun Laid, Paid, & Played with Fergie and Al Jourgensen is filled with clap-like beats, throbbing rhythms and Trent and Fergie singing lines about Fergilicious getting on with Trentlicious. Trentlicious sings lyrics about wanting to tap Fergie's *ss as it features a chorus with Al Jourgensen's barking, growling vocals about getting laid, paid, and played with its driving guitars as it's a great mix of industrial, pop, and hip-hop. Feel Like Being Dead Again is an upbeat rock song with grinding guitars, loud drums, pounding bass, and Timbaland's swirling arrangements of synthesizers and hip-hop beats. Trent's raspy vocals filled with lyrics about just wanting to die and not caring anymore as it features a wailing guitar solo from special guest, uncredited guitarist John Mayer playing a metal-blues track. The album's final song is the piano ballad duet Still Hurt with Alicia Keys. With its somber arrangements and Timbaland's soft, sputtering beats, Trent sings morose lyrics about being hurt as Alicia Keys saying, "let me help you, I can take the pain away". The song gets more morose as Trent says, "I just wanna die, die, die, die... die... die" with Keys saying "let me help you, I love you/And I'm pregnant" as the song fades. Then comes an outro skit with Timbaland saying, "Yo Trent, you done". Trent says "Sure, wanna go get some champagne and hang with Puffy" as Timbaland says, "OK, let's go my man". What makes this album so compelling is Trent Reznor taking on the modern-day R&B and pop genre while fusing it with his industrial sound. Though hardcore fans might be weirded out by his new sound, it's got the same bite that NIN is known for in its rock and such. With help from various musicians, it's the album that is truly the most accessible album NIN has ever made. It's filled with lots of pop melodies and sounds that today's pop fans will enjoy. Even with such new classic songs like P*ssygrinder, Even Closer, Laid, Paid, & Played, and the heartbreaking Still Hurt. It's an album that has Trent being more relevant than ever. Available at the official website through this link (http://www.nin.com/pub/strobelight/). The album is priced at the very, very low price of $18.98 plus a $10 service charge which also includes an exclusive photo and a free Google email account. It's worth the download in various formats of high-quality MP3s, Apple Lossless files, FLAC, and other high-quality audio formats. In the end, Strobe Light isn't just NIN's best album ever made. It's the best album of the decade or any century. Buy it now!!!!! |
