~Claire, nice that you follow..
Yes I too have seen EVERY bad action by drivers.. PLUS !..
but you should get on a scooter and ride in your neighbourhood, and even to the mall to meet your friends.
Usually the parking-lots are large and thats where you can watch MANY bad drivers and stay away from them..
and later when you have great experience...you can scoot to New York or New Orleans..
let me know..
Thanks
lou.

Russ, Great reading you here.
A couple of reasons about why I dont get a bigger motorcycle..in quick answers.
Bigger cost lots more..as well as insurances and maintenance.
Bigger goes faster and that I dont want..to miss the scenery while riding at speed.
Also heavier to handle on/off the stand..
thats why I am now at lightest weight, and lowest costs available..
and this latest 50cc I hope will bring back the original enjoyment.
Stay reading..and thanks

Keep scootering, Lou! Re: two wheeler (Reply to this comment)
by e-claire
I'd love to scooter but L.A. is no place for me to pick up a new road hobby. I'm terrified enough driving, never mind scootering or (as helpfully recommended by henry_thoreau:) bicycling on the streets of L.A.
The drivers are INSANE here. I mean it. I've seen more than one woman refreshing her lipstick or putting on shades WHILE making turns. I've seen a man drive down Venice playing a guitar, looking anywhere but at the road in front of him. Signaling turns or lane changes? Not (usually) in L.A.!

Re: Scooters and mopeds (Reply to this comment)

Oh well..I always just "hope for the best" that my current scooter will behave.
At least 3 of my scooters gave me many problems and headaches from the day I took delivery..and of course every day I hoped "it would come right".
One of my scooters was SO uncomfortable to sit on..I only kept that for a few weeks.
I say that walkers (hikers) and bicycle riders, can maybe see a bit more than me on my scooter, but gee..I guess I still see close to 100% of whats there..and as you say.."thats lots".
My guess also, is you will make time to get back on a scooter..and make a little time to enjoy.
Thanks

Scooters and mopeds (Reply to this comment)

I am sorry to hear about your scooter problems. But I am happy you have a good one now. 100000kms is a lot on scooter. Driving around in Israel on scooter sounds wonderful. You take your time and see all the wonderful things there is to see, and you don't need to go far between the attractions. There are so many of them everywhere.
I used to own a moped when I was 15 (you have to wait until you are 18 to drive in Sweden). A friend of mine and I drove around with our mopeds in Northern Sweden. It was sometimes cold. We were planning to do a smuggle trip to the Soviet Union on our mopeds (big trip on a moped). Just printing press stuff for the underground movement. We were going to hide it in the gas tank. We had recently been on a similar trip by train but we were caught at the Finland Station in Leningrad. However, we canceled the big moped trip.
Unfortunately I don't have time for scooters and mopeds anymore, but I will later in life (I hope).
