C,
I must heed the words of the Crazy Nite Owl Cat Lady for it all rings true.
All wisdom comes in the wee hours of the morning via purring feline communication. It's a well established fact.
I agree with the young infant/visiting mom scenario the hard way as well. Thankfully, he's a lot better and wasn't scarred from that experience. I, on the other hand..... ;)
Oh, you have my sincere sympathies. The baby loved that day - I was a disaster. After a couple of years of occasional PTSD-like flashbacks, you'll be fine. Just stay on your medication....;)

Shmoo,
I like the pic. Nice tribute...
Thanks. It's one I took in Paris on the trip Barb helped me plan. I hope she'd like it.

Talyseon,
How long must you suffer from your children's hormones? Until they have children of their own and start suffering themselves. Grandchildren are the best revenge.
I believe my athletic solution works temporarily, but you are correct. The only real way to end your own suffering is by watching them suffer the same fate. But geez, that feels like a long time (at least I hope it's a darn long time!)! I think my dad gets off the phone with me and chuckles for hours.

Summer,
God, isn't that the truth. And mine is 12.. how long must I suffer? And.. I was NEVER like that.
You must suffer through all eternity or until they find a sport that exhausts them so much that they no longer have the energy to argue with you. I suggest cross country running or swimming. Or both. I, of course, needed no such thing, being a saintly angel, just like you.......;)
Have a great Mother's Day
You too!

Great Tips! (Reply to this comment)

Teenagers are a lot like infants - their ability to focus on anything other than their own worlds for more than four minutes is severely limited, this time by hormones.
God, isn't that the truth. And mine is 12.. how long must I suffer? And.. I was NEVER like that. ;)
Have a great Mother's Day :)

Mark,
It is just SO true that the "buy, buy, buy" mindset is inappropriate for holidays like Mothers Day. I don't buy "things" for my mom & dad either --- they're also downsizing and don't appreciate junk, but they sure love seeing their grandkids, so me and the little guys fix a nice breakfast for mom, give her a hand-made card and a $50 bill for a spa treatment (along with a pre-made appointment time), then we zip over to grandma's house where we bring lunch and hugs...
That's an awesome way to celebrate! I'm still collecting knick knacks from my daughter (she's in the Age of the Knick Knack) - it makes her happy to see them around the house, in "just the right place". But I'll love her handmade card more...:) Hopefully, my teenager will grunt good morning and then go pull some dandelions...;)
Happy mothers day everyone!
Thank you!

Grace,
Are you sure your In-law tip #3 doesn't double as a gift for you? Time alone in the house is a valuable commodity.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......;)
Your husband sounds like a superstar
He is the King of Mother's Day, truly. He just asked the other day what I want for breakfast that day. Whee!

Megan,
The kids just can't do it alone - yay Dads!
And yes - despite no longer being very small, I still think my children sometimes have the attention span of nits. Or possibly fleas.

you're absolutely right! But, the "nit" comment really got me! I hope the window washers aren't around, because I'm sitting in my office laughing out loud like an idiot.
