For A Mother Who Only Wants Her Family For Mother's Day!

The Bottom Line Some ideas for a mother who only cares about having the family to be together for Mother's Day.
Mother's Day has always made me feel a little guilty every year that it comes around as It reminds me that I shouldn't need a certain day to show my mother how much she means to me. This is the same way I feel about Valentine's Day as you should never need a certain to to show someone you love just how much you love them. I come from a small family and travel quite a bit and don't talk to my mother as often as I should. Mother's Day has always been an extremely important day to my mother. My brother and I try and come up with something kind of special for her on this day each year. Not just saying this, my mother has the kindest and gentlest soul I have ever come across to this day. The only other person I have ever known that would even come close to comparison to her would be her own mother. My mother cares about her family more than anyone I have ever met. She raised us with unconditional love, warmth, understanding, and nothing has changed all these years. I am an unbelievably blessed man that is truly honored to have been raised by someone so unselfish, so full of love, a with such a pure soul. The saying "Love is all you need" is truly how my mother lives her life.
Family
Family is the most important thing in my mothers life and all she really wants is to have her family with her on this day. My father passed away a couple of years ago so the only family she really has now is my brother, his family, and me. The best gift we could give to her (and I'm sure all mothers want this) is to have her family all together in the same place for a day. I have missed some Mother's Days in the past but, no matter where I am now I will always find a way to be with her on her special day. When me and brother get together we are an interesting pair to say the least and we act a lot younger than are ages. We get a long great and love to play games and watch sports together which we are really into. So, having me and brother there playing games acting like teenagers again and yelling at the TV watching sports makes her feel like she is right at home just like we were growing up.
Dinner
My mother has never been one that cared about getting flowers or candy but, she never passes up a chance to go out for a nice dinner. A lot of times we won't go out to eat on Mother's Day as we will just pick up something like Papa Murphy's, KFC, or Dominoes Pizza. Just take this over to her house and play games, watch a movie, and just hang out all day at her house which always makes her happy. Of course, she does not have to cook anything on this day. However, sometimes we will take her out to a restaurant that she loves to eat at. She loves the Olive Garden, Red Robin, and (my favorite place) the Red Line Inn. We tell her to get all dressed up (which she loves to do) and we are going out never telling her were we are going. Even I enjoy the chance to get with my family on this day and sit down to a nice meal and just visit during a nice dinner.
Movies
This is a relatively new thing since my father has passed but, the past couple of years after dinner we have took my mother out to the movies. She has always liked movies and I can't count how many she has at her house. There seems to be some good movies that come out around Mother's Day so there is always a pretty good choice. Luckily for me and my brother, she is not one that watches a lot of the "Chick Flick" style of movies. This means that we get to enjoy the movie as well.
Gifts
Besides everyone buying her a nice Mother's Day card, she has never really cared about receiving gifts. As I stated before, just her family all together at once is all she wants. However, she will get something from me every year whether she likes it or not. She is not easy to shop for at all is the only problem. She doesn't need cloths, cookware, or much around the house. I also am not one that buys a lot of "women stuff" as gifts anyway. And I never buy cloths because I never know if the person will truly like it or not. My brother and I will usually go together and get her something big that she does not necessarily need but, would really like to have. For example, last year we went together and bought her a digital camera and printer for it. This is something she has always wanted but, the hard part was teaching her how to use it. She is not one that has kept up with the times and is not computer savvy at all. Still, she loved it and really made her happy since she can now take pictures of her family anytime she wants to look at and share. Now that she knows how to use them she sends me pictures over the computer all time while I am out of town. I always give her a bad time when i receive the pictures and just send her a reply "Playing again I see".
This year we are going to take her to lunch instead of dinner at the Olive Garden and then take her somewhere she used to go with my father. About an hour and half drive from here is a place called Spirit Mountain which is a gambling casino and hotel. She is not a gambler by any means but, she loves to sit down and play the nickel "One Arm Bandits" for hours. This place also has a wide variety of shows like comedians, music concerts, dancing, etc.. We will be checking some of these out with her as well as she enjoys she type of shows a lot. My brother and his wife will have to go home that night but, I am going surprise her and stay the night there with her so we can have an extra day. She will be very surprised at this and in no way would expect something like this. I'm sure she will enjoy this and will give her a good memory with the family.
