The Bottom Line Give a gift which keeps on giving for a lifetime, even well after mom is gone. Give her a Blackberry, Palm or other PDA camera-phone device.
Flowers and plants are beautiful, but mothers deserve gifts which continue to send a message of love long after their special Mother's Day holiday has passed. Jewelry is nice since it can be passed down from generation to generation, but even the most precious stones are put away in a drawer or box for safekeeping most of the time.
Mother's deserve time to be creative and independent and spread their wings. They spend so much time on meeting everyone else's needs that giving them a gift which provides them the ability to fly intellectually and emotionally would be the best present you could give. For this reason I suggest an up-to-date computer, digital cell phone/camera or even better an all-in-one Blackberry or other PDA.
Just imagine if Mom was brought into the 21st Century with all the spectacular technological advances we have today. She could take photos, download them, send them, enhance them and always have them arranged digitally within the palm of her hand ready to draw it out to show others on a moments notice for friends and relatives.
She would have the ability to call or text at any time and be there when needed no matter where. If the PDA has built in GPS, you could always locate an impaired mother and she would have access to 911 with the touch of a button knowing anyone could find her.
Some PDAs and cell phones come with enhanced print screens, larger buttons, speakerphones, enhanced sound, and car battery chargers. Hands-free Bluetooth would be nice for anyone suffering from arthritis and a prepaid plan or roll-over minutes would be a nice gesture.
The best part about personal electronics is the ease of use and anytime availability to send and receive messages from anywhere. When they are traveling to exotic locales or taking the RV south with the snowbirds. Perhaps they are simply babysitting and just saw or heard something funny that they cannot wait to share with others. The pix and text can be saved and enjoyed for posterity. It can also allow mom to let her inner creative genius (art, shopping adventures, creative writing and eventual techno skills) thrive.
