God Bless you (Reply to this comment)

My mother-in-law had Alzheimers. It was very difficult watching her deteriorate. She got to the point where she didn't know any of us anymore. She also developed ovarian cancer and that took her first. Sort of grateful for that but not really if you know what I mean.

I am and was a big supporter of former President Ronald Reagan. When he announced his fight with Alzheimers Disease, I got involved. I am not sure if stem cell research would help but I do donate to the cause.
Your father's faith will sustain him. We are on this planet for a very short time then we return to our creator, God.
My prayers are with your father, mother, you and your family.
Keep the faith!

I just read about your father, and can't help but wonder if there is an update. My heart goes out to you. I lost my mother to Melanoma this March. You have been loosing your father for awhile.
No words can help in these situations, but know that while I can't say it ever gets easier, you do get stronger. I am glad you have faith; it will support you when all else falls short.
Blessings on you and yours.
Talyseon.

horrible disease before I read your account of your Dad. But then again, no one understands all of the diseases unless one of their family members get it. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I cannot run and hug my parents as their lives were taken suddenly from me at separate times. After I read your account, I am starting to see even though the pain is so bad that you lose a parent without warning that it may be easier than watching them go through this. May God bless you Leah and your family and my prayers will be with you.

My mom passed away in 2002, but had been gripped by this disease for the last 3 years of her life. It's only now that when I think of her I envision the young, vibrant woman who raised me and made every wrong right.
This is such a cruel disease for both those who suffer through it, and those who have to witness and deal with it. Stay strong. It does get better.
I pray for both of you.
Warmest,
Rudi

Alzheimers (Reply to this comment)

Just to let you know that I know what you are going through. My Dad has this dreaded disease and it is very hard to see what it has done to him. he will be 89 years old on July the second and three years ago he was still farming just like he had done all his life. When this disease took over it took him fast. He also talks and relives his life in the past. I'm talking back to his childhood. Most of the time we are farming a lot. Any day that I can visit my Dad and we can talk, and I don't care if it was in the past that is a good day.
I just wanted to let you know that I very much understand what you are going through. It is very hard to see the people that you love have to go through this and to know that they to are very lost and can't figure out what is happening to them.WE just have to try to do the best that we can for them.

Thank you all for your comments and support and prayers. I have spent the last several days with my father. He actually left us twice for 4 or 5 minutes and his pacemaker kicked in and brought him back to us. It was a horrible experience and was to much on my mother and if that happens again I am not so sure that she can handle it.
Thanks again,
Leah

My mother in law is affected but lives very far from us so only phone calls keep us informed to how swiftly she is progressing...my sis in law that cares for her is a Saint!

I hope that your father and your family find peace.

You wrote a very touching and beautiful tribute to your father ~ for everything he has been to you, your family, and the world. Indeed, his faith and spark have carried him far. I cannot imagine going through this with my parents, but having read your essays, I am at least somewhat prepared for what the future may hold.
Be Well (and yes, I'm sending prayers for your family and Dad),

...to hear about what you have been going through with your dad. It must be really, really tough on you and your whole family. I remember a grand aunt who had Alzheimer's and it was really tough seeing her go through it because she used to be a lively character before she got Alzheimer's.
Regardless of what happens, I'm sure God will remain by your father's side.
Best,
cripper
