The Bottom Line Honor your Father and Mother - now matter what
Youo may never know just how important their presence might be in not just your lif, but your children's life too
To all you Fathers, Grand and Great as well, I bid you Happy Father’s Day.
Time is too short for us on this planet. I urge all of you to spend each day with those you love wishing for a few more hours before the new day arrives.
If only I had been there more often, I might know what words to say. Better words for better times. Softly spoken kinder, gentler words, words that would produce smiles and hugs. A few reassuring words for handshakes and congratulations.
I might have even known what better gifts to bring, material gifts that could help bridge gaps. Gaps caused by two proud men, gaps that caused years to be lost.
If only I could have found satisfying work near my home town, instead of branching out. If only my sons and daughters knew their Grandfather better.
Father’s Day approaches and I long to be able to share it with my Father. I wish that all could have known him as I have come to know him. A stubborn, but gentle man with strong convictions and big heart full of love, especially for his children and wife.
The best Father’s day gift I ever had the honor to bestow was the announcement of my first borne, several months prior to June. With each child I helped bring into my family I brought joy to my father. More joy than I thought I ever did as his son….but I know that is not true. My father was proud of me. I think he saw in me the things that he might have been able to do had he had the early education that I did.
Dad, your daughters miss you, your grand children miss you, my wife misses you. Dad, I miss you something terrible. I long to share these little people that will never get to know you as well as I have. The short time that you did have with your grandchildren has left a lifelong impression on them. One of endearing love and pride.
For this Father’s day I pledge this to you; I hope to be as good a father and grandfather as you were.
