We went to Las Vegas from December 21-26, 2001. We picked up a car from Alamo, only to discover the front fender was damaged and the driver's side mirror was broken. (There wasn't a walk around with an agent, as is the norm at other rental agencies.)
We called customer service from our hotel and got an answering machine. We called back and were told we would have to go back to the airport to exchange the damaged car for another rental.
We did that the next day, but not without hassle. It took about an hour, after going through the return person and then having to muddle through customer service. Finally we got our new rental - only to realize it was less than half full of gasoline. This, after we had to sign an agreement before we left the customer service area that stated we knew the car was full. (How were we to know that when we hadn't laid eyes on the thing???) Again there was no walk-around with an agent.
We approached the gate to ask where we should go to get gas. The person on the gate could not speak English. We went to the return gate and the person there did not know where to send us - she told us to go to the return area. We ventured down where we eyed gas pumps and tried to speak to two other Alamo employees - neither of which could speak English.
This was a horrible experience. Vacation time is precious and many times all too short. Spending what amounted to about three hours on the Alamo bus from the airport to the rental center, rental counter, on the phone, with customer service and trying to get the car filled up with gas (not our duty when we pick it up - correct??) plus trekking back and forth to the Las Vegas airport from The Strip was not in our vacation plans.
I'm sorry to write the first poor review for this company and maybe it's just the one in Vegas that customers should be wary of dealing with.
