The Bottom Line Godspeed, Michael...

The Lost Boy

They called you the king, but I saw a Lost Boy
Marooned on a menacing shore,
Attempting to capture a moment of joy
Amidst the sea's maddening roar.

The face in the looking-glass often gazed out
With eyes that implored, "Follow me.
Abandon the heartache and scandal and doubt.
Recover your youth and be free."

You sighed when a rainbow emblazoned the sky
With inklings of faraway lands,
For happy thoughts never could cause you to fly
Away from the real world's demands.

You dreamed of it daily as riches and fame,
So fleeting, began to decline:
Just peaceful escape from the barbs and the blame
With worries and cares left behind.

But still, as the sadness encroached on your soul,
Your music would rise when you'd fall.
With one eye in search of the White Rabbit's hole,
You brought Wonderland to us all.

A careful creator, you also sustained,
Uplifting the poor and abused.
With gentle compassion, you cradled the pained,
The hungry, the cold and confused.

And so, as another day dims into night
And shadows envelop the past,
I'll wish on the second star to the right
That Neverland's found you at last.

Bad * Will You Be There * You Are Not Alone * Heal the World
