"Hello?"
"Hi Tyson, this is an AT&T Customer Service Representative... I've been looking over your calling record and think I can help save you a little money."
That is how the conversation started. 15 minutes later, I was off the phone and ecstatic at the changes in my calling plan. Not only am I paying less now, but I get more minutes too. Most surprising of all is that an AT&T representative called *me* and suggested the change.
Until this incident, I really haven't had strong opinions either way on the major cellular providers (except for a strong dislike for Cricket). But now I am a strong supporter of AT&T. I am so satisfied with the customer service department that I went out and bought some AT&T stock. It is a wise purchase because if AT&T treats other customers the way they treated me, the company will continue to dominate the cellular market.
A customer service representative looked over my calling record and noticed that the majority of my calls were going to one person (another AT&T subscriber). I was also sending that person a lot a text messages (at $0.10 a piece). Evidently, AT&T has some new plans and promotions going on and the representative so a chance to put me into a much more effective calling plan.
The representative called me up and told me why he thought I should change my plan and how the changes would benefit me. Here are the details of my original plan (per month):
For $49.99 a month, I got 600 anytime minutes, 1000 evening and weekend minutes, Caller ID, Voicemail, Regional roaming and a few other insignificant add-ons (like text messaging at 10 cents a pop and such).
After the AT&T representative went over my account and suggested changes, here is my plan:
For $44.99 a month, I get 600 anytime minutes, 1000 anytime mobile-to-mobile minutes, unlimited evening and weekend minutes, 100 free text messages, Caller-ID, Voicemail, and all the other things..
So for $5 less a month, I get unlimited evening and weekend minutes (as opposed to 1000) plus a 1000 minutes of mobile-to-mobile calling. Most of my calls go to mobile phones anyway, so that is a big bonus. Plus the 100 free text messages saves me $10 a month since I send over 100 on a monthly basis.
I'm not saying this plan is the greatest in the business or that AT&T has the best coverage, calling plans, or prices. But the company definitely has the best customer service. They called to tell me that I could save money and get more minutes. They called me! It seems a little unprecedented to call customers and tell them they are paying your company too much. Thank you AT&T and keep up the great service!!
