Play Ball!

The Bottom Line Let the kids know that they are at baseball camp to learn new skills, but also to have fun.

Day Camp

My kids are going to a local Parks and Rec baseball camp this week. It's not the sleep away camp, and it is only half day. But, I think this advice can work for most baseball camps, except the sleep away ones.

What to wear

I had my kids wear baseball pants and a short sleeve shirt. For my son I made sure he remembered to wear his "cup", I didn't want a call that a ball hit him in his private area. I also made sure that they had a baseball cap on. Oh, and sunscreen and bug guard! Wouldn't want them to come home with a bad sunburn or bug bites! I also had them wear their cleats.

What to bring

The most important thing to bring at a baseball camp is the bat and glove! For my kids, they each have a gear bag in which their bats, gloves, batting helmets, etc. are in. I also had them put their sneakers in the bag, so that when they were done, they could change into more comfotable shoes.

Another important item is water. Gatorade, Powerade, other sports drinks are excellent for the kids, too, as they will be out in the sun for a few hours. I also give them a pack of cheese and crackers, it's an easy snack if they get hungry.

My kids stay for lunch, so they have their lunch bag with a sandwich, a snack, and a couple of juice packs.

What to tell them on their first day

The main thing is to have fun.
