The Bottom Line The Virtual 9th Season of Gilmore Girls find the Gilmore-Danes clan expanding with new members in the family and new adventures. (4 out of 5)
When Virtual Gilmore Girls was created by a group of fan fiction writers. What the writers wanted to do was bring Gilmore Girls back to form after the show's last two dramatic-heavy seasons. For the virtual eighth season, the fan fiction series attracted a small but devoted following of fans who missed the show since it ended in May 2007. The season saw Lorelai and Rory Gilmore embark on new adventures while making compromises in their own personal lives. Lorelai got back together with Luke Danes where the season finale saw the two looking towards the future as they reach a decision about children, marriage, and family. Lorelai also found new ground in her often cantankerous relationship with her parents as Lorelai and Emily collaborated on expanding the Dragonfly Inn into a spa. Despite some head-butting and frustration, the projected opened with great success with Lorelai crediting her mother with a warmth that Emily never expected. Rory meanwhile, went out on the road to report on Barack Obama's campaign for Presidency as she dealt with unexpected criticism and frustration over her writing and ambitions. Despite help from her friend Paris Gellar and two former boyfriends in Jess Mariano and Logan Huntzberger, Rory realized what she didn't want in her career as she quit her job and retreated home to Stars Hollow. Yet, Rory finds herself lost in her hometown as she tries to figure out how to pull herself back together. In the end of the season, she got an article published at Salon.com to great fanfare with friends and family watching on the night of the Dragonfly Inn & Spa's opening. The season was considered a return to form for the series that also featured subplots involving Kirk getting married to longtime girlfriend Lulu, Luke's daughter April Nardini dealing with high school conformity and living in New Mexico, Lane Kim being a full-time mom while trying to get her rock n' roll career back on track, and Taylor Doose losing his mind when a film production arrived at Stars Hollow leaving its beloved lawn in ruins. The success and response to Virtual Season 8 that its team of writers decided to go for another season in Virtual Gilmore Girls Season 9. Virtual Gilmore Girls Season 9 explores the new adventures of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore along with their family and friends. For Lorelai, she and her longtime beau Luke Danes take bigger steps into their relationship while getting a big surprise that prompts them to make some serious changes. Rory meanwhile, is back on track with her career as she becomes a freelance journalist while living in West Hartford as she ventures into new social outings. At the same time, she finds herself attracted to a new neighbor while struggling to maintain her new lifestyle along with the chance to work at a prestigious newspaper. With Emily Gilmore deciding to work at the Dragonfly an event coordinator to help Lorelai while Richard Gilmore makes a decision about his career following the death of a colleague. Some big changes emerge in the ninth season as April returns to Connecticut full-time along with her mother prompting Luke and Anna Nardini to discuss new custody arrangements. Lane and Zach revive Hep Alien, Paris Gellar gets married, Kirk ventures into real estate, and love is in the air for an unlikely couple. The unofficial ninth season of Gilmore Girls show shows that the stories of Lorelai, Rory, and the gang are still worth reading about as everyone embarks on some new adventures. 9.01-Unhitched & Unhinged-5/5 Written by Jewels12 & Robinpoppins Lorelai and Luke decide to have an impromptu wedding weekend as the entire Gilmore-Danes clan along with Jackson and Sookie scurry to make plans for that weekend at Martha's Vineyard. Emily is upset that Lorelai doesn't want to go for the lavish wedding as she ends up complying with her daughter's wishes. During a phone conversation with Richard, Kirk and Gypsy overhears Luke's conversation where the town goes quiet as they're planning something making Luke and Lorelai skeptical. Rory meanwhile, helping out with plans wonders if Jess plans to show up as she's upset by his lack of contact. If there was any way to kick off a season, the long-awaited, much-desired Luke and Lorelai wedding is one no one would expect. Learning lessons from their previous experiences with marriage and wedding plans, it's clear that the Luke-Lorelai wedding II went off smoothly. Keeping it simple and on a beach with T.J., Liz, Jess, April, Jackson, Sookie, Rory, Emily, and Richard looking on, it's the wedding that fans wished they could've seen. The episode also brings a reunion of sorts between Jess and Rory as the former couple who are now step-cousins talk about what they've been up to as Rory reveals new plans in her career. It's clear that now that they're family, they want to remain contacting each other as they're both moving forward separately but together in spirit. 9.02-Cabin Fever-5/5 Written by mag1 & sosmitten With the spa's addition to the Dragonfly Inn already overwhelming Lorelai, she seeks help in finding an event coordinator to help smooth things at the inn for events. Yet, when she hears that Emily is interested in the job, she is unsure as she turns to Luke for help. Luke meanwhile, catches Richard's attention as he sees Luke as a big influence in Lorelai's own business decisions. With Rory deciding to focus on her article on local post-graduates, she feels uncomfortable living at the Crap Shack with Luke and Lorelai getting more intimate. Rory decides to find an apartment in order to move forward as she wants to give her mother and stepfather some space. Even after learning about people her age are already starting different lives while she's still stuck in Stars Hollow which gave her more reason for a change of scenery as she's still trying to work on her project. The episode reveals some big moments as Rory decides to strike out on her own. Lorelai's response to Rory's news, revealed a maturity in Lorelai as she understands that Rory needed to do. The episode reveals the value of Luke's role in the Gilmore family despite a hilarious scene involving Luke and Richard where Luke got an idea of what brandy and cigar taste like together. Other funny moments involve Rory's apartment search with help from Lane where they discover that Taylor Doose hired Kirk to try and sell real estate in Stars Hollow. Lane's appearance reveals a new maturity as Rory finds herself comfortable in Lane's world with twin boys Kwan and Steve in tow with the latter calling Rory, Wo. 9.03-Property Virgins-4/5 Written by DiehardJavaJunkie & wounded Rory tries to find an apartment somewhere in Hartford as Lorelai and Emily decides to help out in the search. The search however, proves to be troubling with Lorelai and Emily sniping at each other. April visits as she tries to make time with the family while ranting about Homeland Security following an incident with hand lotion. Kirk meanwhile, tries to plan something secretive in Stars Hollow. After some housing problems in their apartment, Lane and Zach decide to move out of their apartment leading to a huge misunderstanding with Mrs. Kim. While the episode's title refers to the new transitional, living situations for both Rory and Lane. It reveals how much the two young women are moving on with their own individual lives. Yet, the episode doesn't have a real sense of consistency due to a subplot involving Kirk's housing schemes that doesn't really work. Plus, it's a bit disjointed despite some developments involving Lane and Zach trying to find a new place with Mrs. Kim help after resolving the misunderstanding caused by Brian. The episode also reveals the unique Lorelai-Emily banter while a relationship between Lorelai and April is also starting to develop nicely with a classic Luke rant about Emily and April ranting about Homeland Security. 9.04-War of the Words-5/5 Written by Filo & AdinaRJ Now in her new apartment in Hartford, Rory scours around her new surroundings while being bored with little to do as she makes some new discoveries while sharing it with friends and family. With a slow tourist revenue, Taylor decides to hold a contest to help increase profits that Lorelai wants to take part in but Luke resists until Taylor's refusal to add some of Lorelai's inn/spa profits forces him to take part. With Emily spending lots of her time at the inn/spa and helping Lorelai in the contest, Richard feels neglected about all of the household chores that goes on leading to an argument with him and Emily. An episode that features all of the trademark quirkiness and humor of the series including the town meeting. Yet, Luke & Lorelai's war with Taylor story is one of the most hilarious moments where Taylor ups the ante forcing Lorelai to play dirty and Luke declaring war on both Taylor's grocery store and soda shop. Another Luke/Lorelai moment that is funny is Lorelai's seductive attempts to get Luke involved and a tennis match between Luke/Lorelai and Richard/Emily which is really a 2-on-1 match between Richard/Emily and Luke as Lorelai watches. Richard and Emily's storyline reveals Emily's new role and Richard's sense of discomfort as he's forced to run the household. Rory's storyline reveals that just as she's getting settled in, she is trying to find ways to do something while doing freelance work as she gets an email from Paris' boyfriend Doyle while having brief phone conversations with Patrick and Darshana from her road campaign days and another conversation with Jess about her new living situation. 9.05-Ziggy, Sawdust, & Hypothetical Raccoons-4.5/5 Written by Filo and OliviaJane Rory's newfound environment in Hartford has brought her a new friend while her career is also going in the upswing as they're getting accepted and published. Kirk's house-flipping plans starts to falter as he seeks help from the locals during the town meeting. The profit war between Taylor and Luke/Lorelai gets out of control as the contest finally ends with a surprise winner. Lorelai becomes suspicious of Luke's evasive behavior about his secret project that he's been doing at the garage. Her suspicions are raised after a visit from Liz and Doula where Luke's knowledge about kids finds him becoming more evasive until he reveals the source of his unfinished projects. The episode that features several references to past episodes of the series has all of the quirks of the series. Rory's story about her new environment reveal some upswings in both her professional life while making a new friend in a local bookstore clerk named Tess due to their love for David Bowie. Kirk's own story about his house-flipping plans reveals he's really serious though his partner has left the project. Yet, it shows that Kirk is asking the town for help including a reluctant Luke about how to restore houses. The outcome of the summer business increase contest reveals a surprise winner that isn't Taylor, Luke, nor Lorelai. Yet the big story involves Luke's strange, evasive behavior about projects he's doing at the garage. With Lorelai, Rory, and Sookie wondering what he's doing, what they see is surprising but also baffling. While a visit from Liz and Doula reveal that Doula has definitely attained the smart gene from her older brother and cousin which inspires a very cute moment. Luke's confessions over his projects reveal something much bigger that prompts Lorelai to worry as well. 9.06-It's All About the Timing-5/5 Written by sosmitten & DippersBaby Rory's birthday is coming as Lorelai and Rory plan to celebrate with a trip to Hershey, Pennsylvania. Yet, the plans are suddenly scrapped when Luke and Lorelai visit the doctor where they receive some life-changing news. Paris also reveals some life-changing news as she and Doyle are getting married with Rory as the maid of honor. All of the news overwhelms Rory as despite her own small professional successes, she reluctantly takes part on the Internet dating scene in order to boost her social life. Richard returns from a business trip with an idea about buying a place at the Hilton Head which upsets Emily due to her commitments to the Dragonfly. Lorelai also tries to figure out how to tell her parents the big news. The episode's title definitely lives up to life-changing events around Rory's 24th birthday as the people in her life have some big news leaving Rory a bit frustrated at where she's at. Rory learning that Paris is getting married through her Facebook in which Paris makes a trip to Hartford from Boston to tell Rory in person that she's going to be maid of honor. With Lane and Zach also having time to go out with their sons under Mrs. Kim's watch, it's clear that Rory isn't feeling excited about her birthday though there was mention of her having dinner with her father and half-sister Gigi. Yet, the other big news is Luke and Lorelai and a life-changing event that not only scraps Lorelai's own plans to celebrate Rory's birthday but also some plans for Richard to buy a winter home at the Hilton Head that would've threatened Emily's work at the inn. Overall, the episode brings some excitement as Rory is taking a new step into her social life while her family life is looking bigger than ever. 9.07-Blame Canada-4.5/5 Written by Jewels12 & mag1 With the entire Gilmore-Danes clan knowing about the fact that Luke and Lorelai are expecting, the two try to keep it secret from the town as Lorelai quietly tells Sookie. That turns out to be a bad idea when a teary Sookie tells Jackson as a snowball effect ensues as the whole town finds out. Luke and Lorelai's visit to the doctor about what to do during the pregnancy period has Lorelai feeling scared where she gets unlikely help from Emily. When Taylor decides to raise prices for baby product, Luke gets angry as he decides to raise Taylor's rent on his Soda Shoppe. Rory meanwhile, struggles with her food budget as well as her online dating plans. With his house-flipping plans not exactly working out, Kirk decides to go on a honeymoon with Lulu to Canada. Other subplots involve Luke and Taylor over a price increase is filled with hilarity while Rory deals with her lack of edible food at home as well as the people she's getting from her dating service. Kirk's house-flipping plan story showed that despite some problems, it might actually succeed as he and Lulu go on a honeymoon to Canada where their return from the neighbors up north had them spoil some news. Overall, the episode has some great one-liners, pop-culture references, and a realistic portrayal of what women face in their pregnancy when their 40. 9.08-Multiple Personalities-4.5/5 Written by DiehardJavaJunkie & AdinaRJ Rory deals with a new neighbor who moves in next door to her as he often pops up wherever she goes. Yet, the new guy in her world is revealed to be something more as a new potential love interest is coming into Rory's life. Lane has a brief story during her conversation with Rory as she reveals tidbits about her twin boys. Yet, the big story is about Lorelai's moody behavior in her pregnancy as Emily makes suggestions without Lorelai's input leaving Lorelai upset and Emily hurt. Luke doesn't make things better after telling an embarrassing story about Lorelai to April on the phone. Yet, it's clear that Luke really misses having his daughter as she's living in New Mexico while Lorelai is relieved to have Sookie to calm her down as Lorelai needed to keep her hormones in check. 9.09-It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Catastrophe-5/5 Written by Robinpoppins & Grizzly The Christmas season is approaching as the annual Gilmore Xmas party is coming with a lot of excitement. Yet, unexpected plans make for some serious changes in the Gilmore-Danes world. April's visit to Stars Hollow is revealed to be much longer when Anna has some distressing news to Luke forcing him and Lorelai to make more room for April. The Christmas episode with a lot of hilarious moments involving Luke's own war with Taylor and Michel testing new spa products bringing much more hilarity that includes some comments from Emily. Yet, the episode is balanced by its drama when Anna reveals to Luke that her mother had passed away. With April staying until Anna returns to Connecticut, Luke and Lorelai make room for her. With Rory invited to spend the holidays with Tess and Kevin in Brazil, Lorelai is angry that Rory is even considering it as it revealed a much bigger issue. For Lorelai, she and Luke must face something even bigger as with a baby coming and April now back in Connecticut full-time. What makes this episode so great is Rory feeling left out in Lorelai's new life while Lorelai realizes that things are changing as she must find a way to make room for the family she's been craving for. 9.10-Dates, Baits, and Movie Greats-5/5 Written by sosmitten & OliviaJane After hearing about Luke's fishing trips with April, Richard decides to join along to spend some quality time with Luke. With Luke going on a trip with Richard, April sleeping over at a friend's house, and Rory going on her dating world, Lorelai aks Emily to take part in a movie night where they watch Dr. Zhivago by David Lean. Rory meanwhile, deals with the difficulty of the online dating scene as she goes through one bad date after another. 2009 starts off nicely with a great opening scene about the entire Gilmore-Danes clan dating disaster with Emily revealing that she had a date with a roommate of Richard's back a long time ago while Richard was dating a treasury secretary. Yet, the episode has some great bonding moments for Luke and Richard in their fishing trip that included Richard's posh fishing equipments and such. Lorelai and Emily also has a nice bonding moment when they watch Dr. Zhivago as they share their own crush towards Omar Sharif with Emily sporting a unique pajama with rhinestones. The episode also reveals Luke and Anna dealing with April's school life and new custody arrangements as Anna is set to return to Connecticut as she hopes to discuss the new plans with April's involvement. Yet, the episode's funny moments involves Rory's dating disaster as she also consults with Sookie about her bad dates with the last one being the most embarrassing where she later has a fun moment with her neighbor Kevin about dating disasters. 9.11-Nothing Says Funny Like a Funeral-5/5 Written by Jewels12 & DiehardJavaJunkie The sudden death of Floyd Stiles shocks the entire Gilmore clan as Richard thinks about his future with insurance business world. During Floyd Stiles' wake, Lorelai meets with her former boyfriend Jason Stiles who reveals what he's been up to since the last time they saw each other. Rory and April decide to have a sisters' night out where Rory introduces April to a world of take-out and coffee. At the Dragonfly, Michel goes for another shot at online dating unaware that a local is doing the same thing prompting jealousy among another. The episode provides a sense of closure of sorts for a few things. One is the brief return of Jason Stiles as he reveals his new life following his last meeting with Lorelai years ago while revealing his dog had just died as well. With Luke also attending the funeral with the Gilmores, it provides a closure that Lorelai needed with Jason as no there were no regrets over the relationship and how it ended. For Richard Gilmore, Floyd Stiles' death forces him to make a life decision in which he reveals to Emily his next move. Emily's reaction reveals her support while admitting to her own alienation during the wake where the two realize that times are changing. Two light-hearted moments in the series feature Rory and April spending time with each other as Rory shows her young stepsister the art of ordering takeout. The other light-hearted moment is also the funniest as Michel gives Match.com another shot where he unknowingly chats with Gypsy making Andrew extremely jealous in which he asks Gypsy out. 9.12-Crash, Bang, Boom!-4.5/5 Written by Robinpoppins & AdinaRJ A traffic accident puts Rory in deep financial trouble as she tries to handle things herself. A concerned Lorelai tries to help out but Rory refuses while her grandparents also try to get involved much to Rory's dismay. With the upcoming arrival of Liz and T.J.'s new baby through a surrogate, Luke reluctantly takes part in the plans for the arrival with Jess also reluctantly participating. Hep Alien's first gig in years goes extremely well as the attract the attention of a record executive. For Hep Alien, a chance to hit the big time is finally coming. If there's any proof into what else Rory has inherited from her mother and her grandparents, it's the fact that they're very stubborn. Yet, with a freaked-out Lorelai calling very often starts to annoy Rory while Friday Night Dinner with Richard and Emily only makes things worse. The episode ends with the arrival of a new baby girl name Dawson (as in Richard Dawson, not Dawson's Creek). 9.13-Paying the Price-5/5 Written by wounded & mag1 Following her accident, Rory attends traffic school where she manages to find an opportunity for her journalistic career. With Lorelai playing the pregnancy card, Rory and Luke become annoyed while Luke and Lorelai's visits to find out the sex of the baby finds them worried. Taylor angers Luke once again as he sets up a pool for the arrival of the baby and its sex prompting the town to get excited as they want to know. The episode has Rory attending traffic school where she meets someone she knew from her community service days but also finds an opportunity in meeting a veteran journalist from the Hartford Courant. For Rory, working at the prestigious newspaper would get her a chance to help her financial situation while not feeling like she would owe money to her family. Even as she expresses her frustration with the limits of being a freelance writer to Lorelai's sympathy. Lorelai's own pregnancy antics provide humor as well as the locals wanting to know prompting Luke and Taylor to make a truce. A funny comment from Jess about Rory's own criminal record is funny while it's the person who is making the biggest bet over the baby pool proves to be the big surprise. 9.14-Food for Thought-5/5 Written by Robinpoppins & Lulu1960 With Rory awaiting the news about her job possibilities for the Hartford Courant, her grandparents hear Rory met with their friend from the Courant. Lorelai decides to go for a new hobby in cooking which worries both Luke and Sookie. With Anna announcing her return that is earlier than expected, Luke is saddened that April won't be around the house anymore as Lorelai becomes the assuring voice of reason for him. The episode delves into the idea of nepotism as Rory is wondering about her possibilities working for the Hartford Courant. Yet when her grandparents hear about it, Rory wonders what they might do as Richard is aware that their interference might not be the best idea since it hasn't worked in the past. Rory and Richard's conversation reveals that Richard just wants the best Rory as does she. Luke meanwhile, deals with Anna's return to Woodbridge as she found a home and job that she can work nearby. Luke however, is sad that April won't be around as much though he's relieved that at least she's close again as it opens doors to some new custody arrangements. The episode's funny moments involves Lorelai's new hobby to cook that was driven by boredom while a freaked out Paris comes to Rory over her mother's plans for the wedding provides some great humor. Another funny moment involves a new Southern maid Richard and Emily have that amuses Richard but not Emily. 9.15-The Pros & Cons of the Winds of Change-4.5/5 Written by Filo & Olivia Jane Rory brings back the pro/cons list for her job possibilities at the Courant with help from Tess in the Excel program. Rory also finds herself attracted to Kevin as she takes him to Stars Hollow the first time around. While Rory seems to be on the upswing, Lorelai and Luke hit a bump in their marriage due to discussion over child birth plans after Liz's suggestion to Luke about natural childbirth. Yet, it becomes extremely heated over Luke's fears of what might happen at the hospital and the feeling he's not involved. Luke has other problems as he and Anna decide to go to a court mediator for new custody arrangements with Lorelai's help. One suggestion from Liz about child birth and Luke gets himself into big trouble with Lorelai. Yet, Luke is facing more battles than he realize as a stressed Anna has a hard time trying to find time to discuss new custody agreements. Yet, the new arrangement has both parties pleased with Lorelai's involvement though Luke and Lorelai almost come to blows. Even when Luke almost mentions Christopher's name that really angers Lorelai. Yet, it got resolved with some help from Sookie while Rory brings back her pros/cons list about her job possibilities at the Courant with Tess' help. Meanwhile, the attraction between Rory and Kevin starts to heighten up as she takes him to a Stars Hollow town meeting that gives him enough entertaining moments. One of the episode's funny moments is Rory running into Babette with some very personal stories Rory wished she never wanted to hear. 9.16-Oh Bee-have!-5/5 Written by Once Upon a Whim & Grizzly Rory starts her job at the Hartford Courant where her first day doesn't go as well along with an extremely hectic first week. Lorelai, Rory, and April takes part along with the rest of the town. Luke and Lorelai start considering looking for new houses to live in much to Rory's dismay and the involvement of Richard and Emily. Rory's first days in Chilton and Yale were troubling but none of that compared to the mayhem she faced working at the prestigious Hartford Courant. Little time to meet the staff, a lame assignment, and an embarrassing moment involving the fire emergency door has Rory facing on what is probably the most challenging moment of her life. With Rory now embarking on a new journey, it doesn't start off very nicely. The future of the Crap Shack is now being faced with Luke and Lorelai are now seriously considering into looking for new houses with Rory now saddened that the first house she lived in might be gone. Yet, the episode's funny moments involve the spelling bee that included Lorelai trying to spell something very mean along with a surprising winner leaving the entire Gilmore-Danes clan upset over some stupid technicalities and rules. Another funny moment involves Sookie thinking that Martha might be super-smart only to realize it's not true. 9.17-Vested Interests-4.5/5 Written by wounded & Mrs. Dionysius O'Gall Despite a tough first week, Rory is finally getting some footing in her new job. Her first major assignment in relation to children becoming successful without fathers however, makes Rory contemplate about her own relationship with her dad. Lorelai meanwhile, helps her own father on his costumes for an upcoming concert he's performing with his barbershop quartet. Luke feels out of the loop over Lorelai's time with her dad as he becomes sexually frustrated. Lorelai starts to have her own physical insecurities while Sookie starts to have a crush on the new poultry supplier. The episode is clearly about father-daughter relationships or the lack of one. While Lorelai and Richard seemed to have a good time in altering costumes for Richard's barbershop quartet. Rory however, seems to ponder whether her life still would've been great if her dad was around. Yet, a conversation with Christopher definitely put both father and daughter at ease as Christopher admits that he and Lorelai would've never really worked out as a married couple. Some of the episode's funny moments involves Luke's sexual frustrations and Lorelai's emotional mood swings while Sookie's crush over her new poultry guy also adds some great humor. 9.18-How Do You Say Unsettled in Swahili?-4.5/5 Written by sosmitten & Robinpoppins With the due date of the baby coming, Lorelai and Luke go house-hunting which proves to be very difficult despite help from Kirk and Brian. Emily has her work cut out as she tries to prepare the inn for Lorelai's maternity leave forcing Richard to go to social outings by himself. Yet, finding the right house for the Gilmore-Danes clan proves to be difficult while Lorelai seems saddened about not finding the right place along with the idea of leaving the Crap Shack for good. Rory meanwhile, goes on a date with a computer programmer named Peter with Zoltan as his middle name that went well. Yet, a movie night with Kevin that led to Rory oversleeping at his place made Rory realize she might have feelings for him. With Richard going to more social outings involving his work in Yale, Emily doesn't have time as Richard realizes how much work she puts into the inn as he ends up helping her after his dinner with a colleague. The show's funniest moments involve Sookie and Jackson's attempts for some alone time that ended up nearly killing Jackson until he is saved by Kirk. 9.19-Something Old, Something New, Something Black, and Something Blue-4/5 Written by Jewels12 & Filo It's the wedding day for Paris Gellar and Doyle McMaster with Rory as the maid of honor. Yet, a favor for Kevin to play in his softball team nearly threatens Rory's appearance at the wedding. Lorelai prepares for her maternity leaves as chaos ensues over who will take control of the Dragonfly and such as Lorelai is overwhelmed with her frantic mother. With Rory and the Dragonfly dealing with trouble, something good happens as Andrew and Gypsy go on their first date. A crazy though funny episode which involves a frantic Emily and Rory in not one of her better moments. For Rory, trying to tell Kevin that Gilmore Girls and sports don't mix theory hold true as Kevin learns why. Even as Rory took Luke's advice early on, Luke learns that the Gilmore Girls/sports theory might affect the baby, if it's a girl. Lorelai has enough on her hands in dealing with Emily, who is set to take over with Michel once Lorelai is out on maternity leave, as she constantly gives Lorelai things to change her life once the baby arrives. While the episode features a nice subplot involving Andrew and Gypsy's first date, that went very well. The only real disappointing moment is one entire scene for the Paris-Doyle wedding where Rory arrives though it's Doyle who steals the moment. 9.20-Strange Bedfellows-5/5 Written by mag1 & Olivia Jane An upcoming interview with Senator Joseph Lieberman finds Rory in near trouble due to eye injury she received. Kevin tries to apologize over what happened as he asks Rory out to dinner. With Lorelai now on bedrest, Luke has a hard time dealing with a bored Lorelai at home desperate for entertainment. With Luke having a busy diner to run, April steps in only to realize that trying to entertain Lorelai is hard to do as it's up to Emily Gilmore to save the day. A crazy yet fun episode which Lorelai's raging hormones at an all-time high leaving both Luke and April overwhelmed. With Luke trying to handle Lorelai and a very busy diner, April steps in but finds herself frustrated as she takes it out on her dad. With Lorelai trying to call people to entertain her, it's up to Emily to put Lorelai in her place. The episode also reveals what happened at Paris' wedding, which turned out to be a disaster involving some antics from Madeline and Louise. One great moment involves the Rory-Kevin relationship in which Rory starts to deny to Lane about her feelings for Kevin. Even as Lane talks to Zach about it where the conversation reveal how well their marriage is going. Yet, it leads to Rory and Kevin going on a date which turned out to be amazing. The episode's ending is a cliffhanger in which the most anticipated moment of the season is finally coming. 9.21-Baby Danes' First Day...Ever!-5/5 Written by KinoFille & Once Upon a Whim The arrival of the Gilmore-Danes baby is now happening as all of Stars Hollow prepare for the welcoming of the baby with a performance from Hep Alien. With Lorelai in labor and Luke at her side, Richard and Emily are suddenly MIA forcing Rory and April to do all of the duties as everyone panics. With the birth of the baby coming, April and Rory finally confess to each other their hidden frustrations towards the baby for the fact that their new sibling will grow up with the whole package of both parents, a dog, and a house. In what has to be the most insane episode of the series, no day can be compared to the day the Gilmore-Danes baby is born in all of its chaos. Richard and Emily accidentally turned their cell phones off during a visit to a theater. Sookie has to wait for Jackson to show up as he forgot his cell phone and Rory and April had to go to town and get things. Yet, it wouldn't be Gilmore Girls without some Kirk humor as he spies at the hospital trying to figure what's going on only to get into some trouble with Rory, April, Sookie, Richard, and Emily. Rory's own sibling drama is definitely understandable as April had some profound things to say knowing that this kid will have the things neither of them had where April finally reveals the source of her frustration. Then there's Hep Alien who are finally getting a break through while doing a special performance of a Paul Anka classic for Luke and Lorelai, and the new baby who arrives in style. 9.22-To Larry Wong: Thanks for Everything-5/5 Written by Mrs. Dionysius O'Gall, Jewels12, & Robinpoppins With the new baby now at home, the whole town wants a glimpse of the new baby which proves to be troubling for the entire Gilmore-Danes clan. Richard and Emily meanwhile, become concerned for the well-being of their new grandchild as they want to prepare for her future. Rory meanwhile, helps out with her new sibling in order to avoid a few things in her own life. At the diner, one of the longtime faces leaves for good as Luke gives thanks. The season finale gives the show a fitting yet hilarious closer. Yet, one of the show's great mysteries is finally revealed in the Asian man who worked at Luke's diner suddenly passes away. With Luke, Caesar, Zach, and fellow diner regulars paying tribute to the man that, they never really knew. What he gives Luke and the family is something far more endearing. While the Gilmore-Danes clan try to evade the townies, acting like paparazzi, one funny moment involves Babette getting to see Luke in all of his glory. With Emily watching over the Dragonfly, she and Richard make plans for their new grandchild though Richard doesn't seem sure that Luke and Lorelai will go for it after what happened with Rory. Rory meanwhile, distracts herself with work and home along with a phone conversation with Jess about dealing with siblings. At the same time, something happens to Rory and Kevin that might give Rory a boost in her romantic life. Yet, the finale ends on a high yet hilarity note as the new member of the Gilmore-Danes clan has no idea about all of the mayhem she will be surrounded by from her mother, her two older half-sisters, and her grouchy father. When the eight season was created by fans for fans, it helped fill the void fans needed after the show ended in 2007. The eighth season helped continue the story of Lorelai, Rory, Luke, and all of the people from the show with the same kind of quirky dialogue and storylines reminiscent of the show in its glory. The eighth season's success prompted for the writers of the eighth season to work on the ninth season that brought some new challenges and changes for the characters that fans of the show and love. The result was a successful season though it wasn't as consistent as the eighth season the writers created. The core story of the show that still continues in the post-series stories is the relationship between Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. After some trials and tribulation the two had gone through, the chemistry and love the two have for each other is as strong as ever along with some moments of conflict. Even as they're both facing changes with the people that are around them. For years, audiences saw Lorelai and Rory go through changes both in their own ambitions, social lives, love lives, and even in their personal goals. Now that another season has ended, the journey of the two girls are there but now there's more people that will be joining them as well. Though Lorelai Gilmore's name has changed to Lorelai Danes, she's still the Lorelai Gilmore audiences know and love while Rory is still the ambitious, driven girl fans know as well. With the eighth season ending with both Lorelai and Rory achieving some new goals, both personally and professionally. It begs the question for writers of Virtual Gilmore Girls of how to start off the ninth season and what they did was with a surprise. After years of being with several men in her life, some were good, some weren't so good, and a marriage that was completely misguided. Lorelai Gilmore finally gets married to the right man in Luke Danes, the man who had been there for her for so many years. After some of their troubles that included the disapproval of her parents, the presence of Christopher Hayden, Luke's discovery of April, and other issues that led them to breaking up and Lorelai's own brief marriage to Christopher. The two reconciled and got back together where after a year of working out some issues and finding new things. They decided to open the ninth season with an impromptu wedding. Unlike Luke's own crazy marriage to Nicole Leahy and Lorelai's own surprising wedding in Paris to Christopher that didn't involve family. Luke and Lorelai decided to just go for it but have family involved in an intimate ceremony for just the family and a couple of friends to see. At the same time, it was a long time coming as Luke had also gained the acceptance and approval of Richard and Emily that he sought for ever since he got into a relationship with Lorelai. Luke and Lorelai's own married life definitely becomes a big story arc as they face through some changes and things that married couple go through. There's moments when there is some conflict as well as both being very stubborn but it wouldn't be a marriage if they can deal with all of that. Then comes a bigger surprise for Luke and Lorelai that changes everything as the two learn that Lorelai is pregnant. While both had been wanting some kids ever since they got together, it was put off after some new realities when Luke had learned about April and facing some of his own realities into parenting. Lorelai meanwhile, knew she wanted kids but during her brief marriage to Christopher, she wasn't sure. The surprising news of a new child for Luke and Lorelai had the entire Gilmore-Danes clan scrambling for some changes. Yet, being pregnant at 40 is an entirely different thing being pregnant at 16 for Lorelai as she is forced to eat a little healthier while has to take a leave of absence from the Dragonfly. Therefore, Luke becomes a food Nazi of sorts while he gets to learn about all the things a man has to do for his pregnant wife. The news of Lorelai's pregnancy does seem to make a lot of people happy but not everyone is enthusiastic about it. Though Rory at first, seems happy that she's about to get another sibling. She finds herself overwhelmed with the changes in her mother's life even after she had moved out to be on her own. The idea of a new sibling and Lorelai's attention towards its definitely creates some conflict between mother and daughter. Even as Rory feels she is being left out making Lorelai really sad. Though it would be resolved, Rory still feels a little jealous over the new sibling along with the idea that the home she had lived in for a good part of her life might be someone else's soon. Eventually, Rory would realize that her new sibling is going to need her as her feelings of resentment went away once the baby was born. While Lorelai and Luke's story arc about their marriage and expectancy created some interesting development for the two. Rory's own story arc shows the ambitious young girl growing and moving forward. Deciding to move out of Stars Hollow to West Hartford was a change of scenery as she needed to strive to take over the world as a journalist. While the freelance journalism role and her newfound freedom gave her a sense of adventure, it would later become financially troubling as she had a hard time trying to get assignment and pay the bills. Even as her own personal life finds her needing some form of companionship. Though she still maintained contact with her best friends in Lane and Paris along with ex-boyfriend/step-cousin Jess as they're each embarking on their own individual goals. Rory's new world in West Hartford definitely gave her the chance to grow and take some chances. Among the changes she faces are in both another new friend in Tess and a potential love interest in Tess' older brother Kevin who moves next door to her. Tess provides the same kind of enthusiasm and quirkiness that Rory enjoys as well as a love for books. While she isn't as interesting or as engaging as both Lane and Paris, Tess does manage to standout in her own eccentric personality. Then there's Kevin who is truly a very different love interest than the previous boyfriends Rory had gone through. While he does have Jess' smart-aleck personality, Logan Huntzberger's cool wit, and the dependability of Dean Forrester. Kevin is the kind of quirky, pop culture loving, sports fanatic guy that Rory seems attracted by. Though it starts off slowly in a friendship kind of way, it starts to develop into something more. When both Lorelai and Lane ask Rory about Kevin, Rory tries not to admit though both Lorelai and Lane know that Rory likes Kevin. Even as Rory tries to figure that out, her own professional life does get a boost following a car accident that would lead her to go to traffic school. It turned out that her little car accident would prove to be a blessing in disguise where she would meet a friend of her grandfather who would get a job at the prestigious Hartford Courant. For Rory, a job at the paper would not only help her financially but also professionally though it started out great. She did manage to find her footing and some fulfillment into her work. Though one of them did raise some personal issues about her relationship with her own dad that eventually resolved. The ninth season for Rory did end on a high note where professionally, she is happy while in her personal and romantic life. She has found another new beau though at the time being, she doesn't know what will happen but at least it gave Rory a sense of fulfillment. Something that she didn't really had in the eighth season as she was just trying to get things going that would lead to her own professional breakthrough. While the development of Lorelai, Rory, and Luke in their own story arcs proved to be fulfilling. So did the development of Richard and Emily Gilmore. After years of tension, heartache, and resentments, the relationship between Lorelai and her parents in the eighth season definitely saw old wounds heal and acceptance towards Lorelai's lifestyle as well as Lorelai's own feelings of her parents no longer filled with anger. Though Lorelai still manages to annoy her parents and call them names playfully, the development of Lorelai and Emily's own relationship in the eight season was one of its highlights as Emily collaborated with Lorelai on the Dragonfly Inn's expansion into a spa. For the ninth season, the relationship between Lorelai and her parents continue to thrive with a bit of tension still floating around and such. At the same time, Luke is seen as something valuable to the Gilmores as he is someone who can help Lorelai make decisions while can mediate whatever problems Lorelai and Emily can have. With that, Luke becomes the son-in-law that can count on instead of the one that they ought to have with a rich background and such. While Richard and Emily's interaction with the people around them including Rory and April seemed to thrive. The development of both Richard and Emily showed new dimensions in their own personal story arc. With Emily taking a job at the inn as an event coordinator and later, co-managing the inn with Michel. Emily truly shows her talents in organization as she happily becomes a part of the inn though it would later bring some conflict with Richard who felt Emily should be at home more. Richard would later realize how hard Emily works at the inn as his own work with his longtime insurance company suddenly starts to lack fulfillment with the changing times. Then with the death of Floyd Stiles and the insurance world becoming more of a young man's game. Richard, who had faced being phased into retirement, decided to quit for good instead of going through another humiliating ordeal as he decided to become a professor at Yale where he feels fulfilled. With that, the marriage of Richard and Emily is still strong while a surprising development reveals that in their age. They're still sexually active while some things haven't changed as Richard is aloof and Emily is still controlling as by the end of the season. Emily has plans for her new grandchild which makes Richard uneasy believing that it would spark some old tension. While the Gilmore-Danes clan had always been a group of five individuals in Lorelai, Rory, Luke, Richard, and Emily. A new person has definitely filled a role into that main clan easily in April Nardini. Since becoming part of the series since the sixth season, April was just a recurring character in the show's last two seasons. In the eighth season, April was still a recurring character who only popped up every now and then though the writers gave her a chance to be developed. For the ninth season, she becomes somewhat of a regular as she starts to appear more where her character deals with some new living situations and getting a closer glimpse into both Rory's own life as well as the rich world of the Gilmores. When her character returns to Connecticut full-time following the death of her grandmother, it sparks tension between Lorelai and Rory. Yet, April manages to fit in easily into the household as she is excited by the idea of having a new sibling though in secrecy. She would later reveal that she is jealous of the new baby over the same issues Rory is having. April's role definitely provided the idea of family as she can fit in easily into both the home life she has with her mother and the world of the Gilmore-Danes clan while showing that she is just as eccentric as her family. Another member of the Gilmore-Danes clan who makes an appearance is Jess Mariano. Though he only appeared in one episode in the eight season, Jess's appearances on the ninth season definitely showed the reformed bad boy at ease in his life while being there for his family. Of Rory's ex-boyfriends, Jess Mariano definitely shows a maturity while still being a smart aleck as he mocks Rory's own criminal past. At the same time, he shows up, though reluctantly, for the birth of his new sister Dawson while showing a soft side for his other little sister Doula. One of the key elements of Gilmore Girls that makes the show fun to watch are its supporting cast as they all get a chance to shine individually. For Sookie St. James, she is as kooky as ever while being the best friend for Lorelai. At the same time, she gets to have her own funny moments like meeting a new, younger poultry guy who she would have a crush on while trying to find some alone time with Jackson. Sookie always provides some funny moments as well as more light-drama moments when she suggests to Emily to be with Lorelai during her pregnancy. Another memorable supporting character from the Dragonfly that gets some hilarious moments is Michel Gerard as he deals with his hectic role at the Dragonfly, some bad spa treatments, and another disastrous attempt at online dating that got him angry as well as earn the glare of Emily Gilmore. Two of Rory's best friends get to have their own individual moments in the season. For Lane, things are starting to come together both personally and professionally though she and her husband Zach are still in need of a new place. While their marriage are going strong, it's the revival of Hep Alien that got Lane excited as she, Zach, Gil, and Brian finally score a record deal and a chance to make a record as success is finally coming. Even things for Lane and Zach's twin boys Kwan and Steve are starting to come around, with some unorthodox parenting help from Mrs. Kim, who is still a bit uptight but as funny as ever. Paris Gellar meanwhile, got more scenes in the ninth season than in the eight as her personal life is an upswing as she gets married to Doyle. Though the wedding turned out to be a disaster due to Doyle's decision to wear a kilt, Madeline crashing into a wedding cake during a dance, and Louise hitting on Paris' dad. Paris definitely made up all of her time for her appearances though we all wish she was profiled more. Another regular character who always standout is Kirk Gleason. The loony townie finally takes a chance at house-flipping and the real estate where despite some troubles and people thinking he couldn't pull it off. Kirk manages to succeed in an unorthodox fashion while still being Taylor Doose's errand boy. Kirk's shenanigans and antics provide great humor while his own marriage to Lulu is still going strong. From the Gilmore-Danes clan are Luke's sister Liz and her husband T.J. who are still as kooky than ever. Even as they prepare for the arrival of their new daughter Dawson while giving Luke bad advice on natural birth. Fortunately, they prove to be the kind of people to be stable enough to raise their children while Doula, to the relief of Jess and Luke, turns out to be pretty smart for her age. Two other people who are somewhat part of the Gilmore-Danes clan are the former lovers of Luke and Lorelai in Anna Nardini and Christopher Hayden, respectively. Anna, who was an antagonist for Luke in the seventh season, is a very different character as a woman dealing with the loss of her mother while is relieved that Luke can still be there for her despite their differences. At the same time, Anna becomes more receptive towards Lorelai while is glad that she and Luke can talk easily about custody issues and such. Lorelai's ex-husband and Rory's father Christopher doesn't appear very much though he's mentioned throughout. Yet, his lone appearance is about Rory as the two definitely still have a strong relationship while Rory does care about her little sister Gigi. At the same time, Christopher begins to admit that he and Lorelai could never work things out in their marriage as he is starting to accept that while is glad that he can still be friends with her. Another of Lorelai's ex who makes an appearance is Jason "Digger" Stiles as they meet at his father's funeral where his character got some closure while there were no regrets over how their relationship ended. Even as Jason is dealing with the loss of dog. Then there's the locals of Stars Hollow who always bring something funny to the storylines. Whether its Mrs. Kim refusing to spell a certain undergarment, Dragonfly spa manager Tasha using Michel as a product tester, or Mrs. Cassini taunting East Side Tillie over the baby pool. The townies always standout with Babette getting to see what many women wanted to see from Luke or Miss Patty spreading gossip all over town. With appearances from Morey, Lulu, Caesar, the Belleville kids, and Bootsy bringing some funny moments. Taylor Doose stands out as he tries to gain victory over a summertime competition and annoying Luke. Yet, the two townies that get a nice little storyline are Gypsy and Andrew whose attraction finally gets the town attention as they become the new couple of Stars Hollow. The virtual ninth season of Gilmore Girls is an excellent, well-written, funny season from its top fan fiction writers. While it doesn't have the consistency of its previous season along with the lack of profile and storylines into a few characters. It is still entertaining as the shenanigans and light-drama of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, Luke Danes, and several characters are still as engaging as the show had been in its brilliance. With new beginnings happening for several of its major players, it's clear that the stories of the girls is far from done. In the end, the virtual ninth season of Gilmore Girls prove that there's more to tell as it continues to fill the void since the show's departure from TV.
