Thanks Jamie...
I really do like it. It's interesting the families that we see. for sure.
As for the clothes.... most of my teachers make a statement at the beginning of the year that parents should keep a change of clothes at the classroom for accidents. Some do and some don't. As a supervisor I am continually buying packs of underwear and socks as well as sweats. Kids do not have to be potty trained to attend so of course accidents occur... sometimes a lot with the littler ones. The clothes almost never come back even if the staff write Head Start in big letters on them. Like you say some of the families just cannot afford the extra.
I even know some kindergarten teachers who request extra clothes.
Thanks for stopping by.

Great job (Reply to this comment)

I enjoyed reading your review.
Years ago I worked for a Head Start program for 3 months during a semester break from college. It was such a wonderful experience and you certainly highlighted on some important aspects.
One thing that I really appreciated was this, you stated, "most places request a full change of clothing to begin with". I don't recall our Head Start requesting an extra set of clothing to be sent to school but that was a long time ago and they may did or did not. Regardless, there were several 3 yr old children who had major accidents and no extra clothes. Most of these kids came from very poor homes and I'm sure their parents just couldn't afford to send extra clothes to school. I finally went out and bought some stuff from thrift stores to keep in the classroom.
Anyway, just thought I'd share; Head Start is such a rewarding job - I still think about those children whose lives touched me in a way I'll never forget.
