Ease of Use:
Pros:Small footprint, good controls
Cons:Speakers not powered, slight burn in problems
The Bottom Line: Get it if your really psyched on the Flat Panel monitor, and have a good set of speakers to start.
I bought the KDS Radius S-3F monitor in Aug. 2K1 to match my G4 Server tower from Apple. Here's my experience:
Out of the box, the software was compatable with Mac OS 9 and X, and it is perfectly capable with other Windows systems I've tried it on. The hook up is a basic VGA monitor, so you have a good chance it'll be usable on your system.
The footprint is great - It's no more then 5 inches round at the base, and base has speakers in it. However, the speakers are NOT powered, so I've not used them. I bleieve they have a matching speaker system that will power them, but that's not very good. I think powered speakers would have added a lot to this system.
The screen is very crisp and has always looked good on most every system I've seen - OS 9 and X had profiles for it built into the system.
The main power control is on the front with a small green light for on, and a blinking amber light for sleep. Controls for the monitor, which are extensive and onscreen, are neatly tucked behind the right side of the monitor, and although they are not marked, the basic set up of "enter, up, down and escape" was easy to figure out.
DVD's look great on this system. I've had a great use of this monitor for graphics and video.
I have had one problem, and that's burn in. Where ever the screen is constiantly white, like the menu bar for Mac OS, I've had a tiny amount of burn in, which is distrcting for only very few, and only shows occasionaly, never when doing anything when in use, including games or DVDs. This could be just this one unit, but I'd like to see another well-used system to confirm.
Overall, I'm pleased with this system, I've had some slight problems, but over all, I can know this monitor has been pretty good.
