Actually, I think the policy is a year or two old by now. There was a big discussion at one time what was appropriate and where re: write-offs.
I thought the consensus then, including the then-moderators, was that a 'notice post' could be made in the General board but all ongoing discussion of the write-off should go on at the Announcement board. I am not sure it was ever successfully defined or implemented then or ever since.
I had that thread up in the General board when I initially decided to do it. But it was 'pulled off' the board for sometime ... and then restored after some off-site discussion by the moderators. My props to them for allowing it to flourish there after being re-born.
RE: publicity...
I e-mailed everyone who commented on either thread at the boards or at the invitation essay itself. I also routinely plugged that thread at the General boards for a good week or so before the write-off. So much so that I surely annoyed a user or ten I am sure.
My apologies to both of you and anyone else who might have missed the event. Like all things Epinions it really is ephemeral but for a moment and then it is off to the 'next big thing'.
And again, my thanks to all that did participate. It is amazing that the community manged to make a bigger deal out of it than did the corporate side; amazing and quite depressing to be honest with you...
