No, I don't! I cried at the breakthrough scene in "The Miracle Worker" when I was 12 or 13, and have been avoiding diability movies ever since (haven't seen "My Left Foot," either),

I would argue he played kinda light in Shaft. LOL. It was a subtle, funny take on Patrick Bateman, I thought. And wholly appropriate.

I thought he was great in "Empire of the Sun"!
I don't think he lacks intensity or commitment (evidenced by starving himself), I just think he needs a lighter role one of these days (his only comedy, "American Psycho" was not lighter). Perhaps, I'll be sorry, as in the case of Robert DeNiro's lightening up!

I've heard you say "I was very impressed by Christian Bale." Maybe I had you wrong. 2007 is definitely a year I need to catch up on - missed too many movie that year.
